Great Job, Brett. That's a major accomplishment for someone new to rowing. Way to stick with it.

And to everyone on the team, JOB WELL DONE!

New Teammates!

Post by DUCKMARX » October 17th, 2010, 8:48 am

Welcome aboard Ron MacBruce! You are our seventh current New England teammate! :D

Nice new photo, Tom McGuire! We have 12 current California teammates! :D

Not that where you live makes a difference on a virtual team, but having a "neighbor" makes it a bit more "real" :)

I'm pre-empting Jan :D in welcoming you, but I was so pleased to see "neighbors" on our crew that I had to say "Hello!" . . . we lived in New England  and now live in California B)

Wowzer, mates! We've got a new teammate (Ron M), and a returning teammate (Bill K) - great to see how many are posting photos (Tom M) - or changing them up ! I thought I'd captured all the numbers this AM, went back to post, and whoa....another returning teammate! Fireworks all around! Great heartfelt welcome, AJ! WTH? Where do you get postings? I only ever get notification of private messages.

It just changed from summer to late fall, overnight. Major wardrobe adjustment.

I'm back home and mentally preparing myself for an hour row after being away for almost 3 weeks. Congratulations to those who have met new milestones! And Congratulations to the Challenge Team for a great effort! My trip was primarily for my S.O. and she had a good time at "quilting camp" in the Blue Ridge area of N Carolina with a bunch of other like minded ladies. It was a nice place to get out of the daily rut for a while. I did some carving and explored the area while she was busy cutting and sewing from 9AM through 9PM daily. After the camp, we took our time getting back home, stopping to see what interested us. Fall colors were about at their peak in the mountain area of West Virginia, making driving through the windy, mountain backroads a very pleasant experience (except for the logging trucks). Leaf color was good all the way to Illinois, but as we made the turn north the leaves had pretty much all fallen as we got north of Madison, Wis. This was a trip we both will remember. Last Tues my wife was not feeling well and we quit traveling for the day early right on the West Virginia / Ohio border. With symptoms not getting better by supper time and she not eating anything all day, we did some Googling and called our insurance health hotline for advice. We ended up in an E R by 8:30PM that evening; she was diagnosed with appendicitis by 1AM Wed; and was in the O R at 3AM. We were lucky as the appendix was in a very deteriorated condition. During her surgery I was reflecting on what that pleasant experience on the windy mountain roads the last 3 days must have felt like for her.... and how lucky we were this didn't happen back in July miles from nowhere in the Quetico. Anyway she was one motivated patient after recovery and was even nibbling on solid food by early afternoon on Wed. She was released at 7PM that day and free to travel home. Quite the experience. Scary story, happy ending, memorable trip! Wishing Mrs. Moose a continued speedy recovery ... that's one quilt she will be able to tell tales about for years to come.
