Mounting IPAD to Erg
Mounting IPAD to Erg
Has anyone designed a mount for attaching a IPAD to the concept2. I would love to have a mount above the display. in order to watch movies and play music.
I know I can't be alone. If you have please post how.

You really should think about trying rowpro instead, but that would require a pc. People have created some stands for monitors for RP. Jef here has maybe the nicest setup:

I built a shelf along my wall and just have the display on that. I do have a stand that I made out of scrape wood, so that I could see the songs playing on the ipod too, but for an ipad, you will want something more substantial. I haven't heard about a VESA mount for an ipad.

Re: Mounting IPAD to Erg
I was just thinking about that problem during my workout today. It is the first time I have used RowPro in a long time and I wan't happy with the idea of turning my head a bit to see it. I figured that I could see it over the top of the cage, as one of the correspondents to that thread pointed out. However, I use slides, so no way would I want the monitor to be moving back and forth - for several reasons. However I think that it would quite well on a stand just behind the cage. It could also be hung from a wall, but in my case the wall is a garage door, which would not appropriate.michaelb wrote:You really should think about trying rowpro instead, but that would require a pc. I just got some slides last week - I love them! I have a TV/DVD player on a stand next to the erg and, true, you have to turn your head slightly to see it, but since my body isn't moving, it's a lot easier than previously on the stationary erg. Not a problem, think about how much you have to turn your head when you're rowing OTW! You could build a shelf that straddles the erg but you'd have to look up a little higher that way. Carl Watts' little photo on his posts looks like a pretty good setup, and judging on the inventiveness of the people here, there are undoubtedly others.

Re: Mounting IPAD to Erg
That's true enough. Today, I was mostly concentrated on the erg monitor - as usual, with only an occasional glance at the computer screen - it was no problem. What I was thinking about was that, if I switched my attention from the erg monitor to the screen, I would have my neck turned a bit for the whole piece and I am convinced that it would cause problems. I didn't need to do that today, but if I start using a pace boat (I still have to figure out how), the screen will be getting my full attention.Cyclist2 wrote:I just got some slides last week - I love them! Re: Mounting IPAD to Erg
Just got a standard bedside cabinet here with 3 draws it it.
It holds all my associated rowing gear like clothes and gloves, spare parts etc. It has a gap underneath high enough to slip the Keyboard and the mouse when not in use and the SFF PC on top brings up the height just right to put a monitor on top. Only using an old 4:3 15" monitor as well, if I moved to a 22 or 24 wide screen it would be more than in my face.
A laptop on top of the cabinet would work just as well.
Job done.

Re: Mounting IPAD to Erg
For iPad, I'm experimenting with some cheap chinese iPad holders and also with (my favorite) RAM-MOUNTS (from National Products). I made a small block of plastic w/ a large hole and a small hole and a longer monitor bolt, then the RAM's "ball mounts" get used. Works OK, but looking for better options. Works for iPhone too.

Re: Mounting IPAD to Erg
I was just taking another look at the most recent version of the prototype. It would certainly be much easier to use with a large computer screen, since the erg monitor is stationary so that the cable to the computer doesn't have to move like it does with the current models on slides. I wonder if the monitor arm can be rotated all the way around (~230 degrees?) so that it would be completely out of the way of viewing a computer screen on a stand behind the pedestal.
Scott,
Any comment on that?

I've been looking at this for my laptop with rowpro:

Of course what I really want is the Anthrocart version, but a little pricey, but bullet proof.

This is my set-up. I hook up my laptop to the monitor. I may get a longer monitor cord and switch RowPro to my desktop.
I am sure you could modify the mount to fit a iPAD. Plus, this may be overkill since the iPAD weighs a bit less than the monitor.

If one wanted to lay waste to all the energy in the body in the shortest possible time, rowing would be the way to do it. (Kiesling)

Re: Mounting IPAD to Erg
where did you get those monitor mounts?
I have a planar touch panel that I use with row pro and media player...
i would love to mount it right on my D like that.

Re: Mounting IPAD to Erg
The mount is from New Egg. I forget the model, but I could look it up. I have also added two steel strips from where the PM-4 mounts to the frame up to the monitor mount. This has reduced the sway a lot.

Re: Mounting IPAD to Erg
Looks to be an Ergotron but not sure they sell this exact unit anymore. One thing to keep in mind. If you ever get slides then this is going to create an issue in that now the arm is attached to the erg and will be moving not stationary. That is why I personally am looking at some sort of cart.

Nice point about the slides. Do not see those in my future, but you never know. I do think Santa is bringing me a set of Shock Boxes though. I don't see the monitor being effected by those

Re: Mounting IPAD to Erg
Here is a professionally made ipod holder. Well, maybe not exactly professionally made but you would never guess that it is homemade by looking at it. Do not attempt this at home. Advanced engineering techniques are required including using a hammer and nails or glue and sawing scraps of wood.
The little holes in front are for the speaker in the ipod. I made a top so the holder would be like a speaker enclosure. Unfortunately with my unusually powerful drive the fan noise drowned out Xeno's instructions, so I got some wireless headphones.
Here is the C2 with the seat that can be set to be unstable, feathering handles, and modified footboard.
OK, I know what you are thinking. You don't have to say it. I already know. This is somebody with too much time on his hands.
