Ranger's training thread
Re: Ranger's training thread
Mike--
Come on over to BIRC.
It will be a great race.
Head to head.
I'll go out at 1:33 pulling 12.5 SPI and you'll go out at 1:43 pulling 10 SPI.
Then we can see who get to the finish line first.
Dang.
You old foggie scullers need to learn a thing or two about training.
You don't have a clue.
I am working about four times as hard as you are.
Why loaf?
Do you think loafing is going to get you somewhere?
If you don't use it, you lose it.

Why will you go out at 1.33 pace, are you going to row a 6.12?
Sounds a fly and die to me!

What is long-term effect of a 60-year-old with a resting HR of 43 spm running their HR over 160 bpm three hours a day for a couple of decades, with another couple of hours of exercise a day reserved for even more intense efforts?
I wonder whether something like that has ever been done before?
Any old geezer who can do this is a pretty dedicated and durable S.O.B.
Yikes.
That's workin' hard.
My guess is that, one of these days, when I get OTErg and do 60min, 1:44 @ 26 spm (12 SPI), my HR will rise pretty quickly to 172 bpm--and flatline there for most of the hour, just as it did back in 2002-2003.
Then, when I kick it into the finish over the last 1K, my HR will push up to 185 bpm.
My 60min pb is 1:48.
1:48 for 60min predicts a 1:38/6:32 2K.
1:44 for 60min predicts a 1:34/6:16 2K.

For my lightweight rows, my weight has to be, at most, 165 lbs.
You are younger than I am, Mike.
At WIRC 2011, you won't even be in my age division.
I will be a 60s lwt for WIRC 2011.
I would be delighted to race against you, head-to-head, at BIRC 2010, though.
But there isn't much chance of that.
You're too much of a chicken shit to come over to Birmingham and tangle.
Why?
If you do, you'll lose by 30 seconds.
I'll row 6:20.
You'll row 6:50.
You're just a bunch of hot air.
Pathetic stuff.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Rich why would Mike spend a fortune and fly to the UK for an Erg race where you’re probably be a no show anyway?
I’m sure Mike is more than satisfied with his rowing OTW and wining at many of the events he enters, the ones you’re a no show at. From his perspective the Erg is second fiddle and merely for a bit of off season training and yet he can still post IND_V results.
How come you only issue challenges but never accept one when it's put to you? Mike has asked repeatedly for an IND_V row from you and yet again you’re a no show.
Are you beginning to see the picture? everyone else already has.

This is his last opportunity--for a couple of years.
If he comes to BIRC, we can race.
If not, not.
It doesn't cost a "fortune" to go to BIRC.
Mike has already done some international rowing.
My flights and hotel are booked.
I am entered.
Back to you, Mike.

So what is your usual HR (and %HRR) when you ride your bike, say, 50 miles?
Mine seems to be 160 bpm., 80% HRR.
My anaerobic threshold is 172 bpm, 87% HRR.

Here's a picture for ranger to consider:
Distance.......... 1k
Conditions....... light tail wind; against rising tidal flow
Place............. OTW in Providence, RI
Month............ July, 2010
Time............. 3:40.18 (1:50.09 pace)
I doubt ranger will ever post an OTW time for 1k in his entire troll-like life...

I think I'll pull something like 3:40 the first time I race a 1K.
If I can rate 34 spm, I'll do 3:40.

Re: Ranger's training thread
That you're entered at BIRC is no guarantee you'll actually row. Precedent shows you're fully capable of staying in the stands when your race is called. You've shown you can answer the bell with a resounding "Dung!"
As for your threshold-associated HR being 172, and 87% of your HRR, no it isn't. For starters, the associated HR is machine-specific. The scanty evidence you've provided suggests it's ~ 160 bpm on your bike -- maybe less, depending on exactly what you were doing re pace and cadence and posture.* It's almost certainly more like ~ 155 bpm on an erg, and no more than 85% of a HRR that presumes an erg-specific max HR of no more than 175 bpm. Or would be ~ 155 bpm on an erg if you ever actually did continuous rowing for periods long enough to get it there and keep it there meaningfully.
As for BIRC, Mike may not be there but I will. When you fail to make weight you'll be in my category -- 55-59 MHW. Let's see you make good on your boast that you'll beat me by 20 seconds. If you actually race, I think I could beat your likely 6:48 at 17 spm. Not that I intend to rate that low.
* Plus your tendency to misrepresent results when you're not actually making them up out of whole cloth.

How utterly puerile. What's your mental age when you're sober, ranger -- 5?ranger wrote:No, it's not.mikvan52 wrote:Very right

Back to you, Mike.
So if Mike nominates a single OTW race in the USA as a head to head and you're a no show, we can assume that you don't want to race Mike head to head OTW.
Back to you Mike.
Re: Ranger's training thread
How about the Highlander Challenge in Waterbury, CT, just before your birthday ranger - if Mike says he'll go, will you? Or do you not want to race head to head?ranger wrote: If you don't come to BIRC 2010, clearly, you don't want to race head to head.

Well, if I take as long as it took you, I have another 30 years or so before I need to post a 1K time OTW.mikvan52 wrote:I doubt ranger will ever post an OTW time for 1k in his entire troll-like life...
