There's no point locking any of Ranger's threads. Doing so results in two actions:

1. A new "Ranger's training thread" pops up.
2. TSO spreads his crap over the rest of the forum and doesn't stick to his special place.

#1 and #2 may or may not be simultaneous. #1 is less of a PITA than #2. Keeping this thread running is less of a PITA than either of those options.

Sure, I will be sharpening for BIRC.

That's at the end of November.

But I will turn 60 on January 25th, 2011.

So I will also be sharpening for WIRC, at the end of February.

You haven't sharpened since 2003? Byron showed proof of dozens of declarations that you were sharpening in every year since 2003. If he had more time he could pull up hundreds of posts since 2006 of you discussing the fact that you are now sharpening.

Were you lying in all of those posts, or are you lying now?

And you wont show workout results because I'm not sympathetic toward your training? I don't even know what that means, but it makes me laugh. You've run out of excuses for not proving your outrageous claims so now it's because we're not sympathetic. Remove the 'sym' from that word and you have the most accurate description of you and your training.

1. Uhhhh lots of HWs at 55 have pulled sub 6:30. Once you pork up over 165 it makes no difference for the rankings.

2. Uhhhhh no it's not. WR pace is 6:37. It's either a WR or it's not. In your case it is NOT.

Only yesterday, ranger said he had started sharpening... Now he's going to start sharpening... :?

and as for the reporting of 2003... : ranger! get serious. That was 7 years ago...

You have not reported any workouts since you initiated this RWB stuff that you claim has made you faster... at lower % HR...

If you are such a great reporter: Point us to a single "IND_V" you've done as a workout.

Don't you wish to make your claims credible in the "here and now"...? Then....
Please stop saying "wait until I sharpen. Then I'll show you"!
You claim to be fitter and faster right now. Show it. Saying you are is not evidence and you fail to provide the nuts and bolts of training..
I know you believe that generalities of training is enough to go on. The key is that no one else does..
Why not honor such a simple situation and reveal what is asked for in good will?

It seems to come naturally to you!

A large percentage of your posts are examples of claiming to do something you haven't done. Most of the rest are claims that you'll do something that you never do. Everything else is just plain wrong

Claims about _training_?

I have told you all about my training.

Claims about how your training will bear on your racing are made credible when you race, or do some sort of race-like, maximal training.

As I have said, when I do some training of that sort, I'll report it.

I just haven't been doing that sort of thing.

So there is nothing to report.

BTW, in terms of ratios, I seem to like intervals separated by seven spm.

At 145 df., I am in a 4-to-1 ratio at 20 spm, a 3-to-1 ratio at 27 spm, a 2-to-1 ratio at 34 spm, and (pushing the drag up to max) a 1-to-1 ratio at 41 spm.

These are indeed some of my favorite rates.

Cut the waffling stuff, RIch.
You train.
You make claims about your training.
That is the full extent of your reporting.
Ever notice that there is a monitor on your erg?
Ever notice that it has a memory?
Ever notice that it has a "workout" mode.

You are unable to calculate your glorious spi with resorting to using these functions

Please supply the data that goes into your spi calculations for the full length of recorded pieces.
Exhibiting "internet -troll- " rhetoric is of no use in successful deflection of remarks about your recalcitrance in this matter.

I am not asking about your racing. Everyone knows that.

Let me be specific:

You have no current 500m TRAINING time on record. THis would show EVERYONE YOUR BASIC NON-SHARPENED SPEED.

I contend that you are CURRENTLY AT OPEN WEIGHT not faster than 1:30.
Your training , you have said is :"complete".

If you wanted to you could sit down on the erg and pull a 500... to show where you are.
You don't want to.. That is your choice.
Remember though:
No one believes that you have 1:28 or faster 500 speed which would be in place RIGHT NOW if your training was "COMPLETE" and all that was left is race prep for BIRC.

You love to have people think that what you contend is plausible... No one puts any credence in what you contend any longer.

What has this been called through the years....Oh, yes: "Busted Flush"

Current?

Not only current.

Past, too.

I have never done a free rate 500m.

And it hasn't mattered a whit.

I'll get some 500s done this year, but only when I am in the throes of final preparation for BIRC (and then WIRC), doing day-to-day anaerobic efforts.

IMHO, you misunderstand speed on the erg.

It's just like speed OTW.

Speed in rowing is how far you can move the wheel/boat on each stroke, just relaxing and being natural.

In the end, because of mechanical and aerobic limitations, everyone the same age and weight rates about the same for all the distances.

What makes one rower better than another is their stroking power.

OTErg, you row a 2K at 9.5 SPI (6:45).

I have already pulled a 2K at 12 SPI (6:29), without even preparing for it, still working on technique.

I'll row BIRC and WIRC this year at 13 SPI.

My work on technique is done and I will fully prepare.

No, I haven't "made claims" about the training itself.

I have just described it, for instance, so that you could do it, too.

In my training, since 2003, I have both lowered the drag (from max to 145 df.) and increased my stroking power 3 SPI (from 10 SPI to 13 SPI) by improving my technique.

Sure, I have speculated on how this will affect my 2K (and my sharpening, etc.), but I guess we'll just have to wait and see whether I am right about that.

You say my top speed in a 500m is 1:30.

That misunderstands rowing--profoundly.

You do a 500m at 42 spm.

So will I.

But my natural stroking power is 13 SPI.

Yours is 9.5 SPI.

In a 500m, you can pull somewhat harder than your natural stroking power, 1-2 SPI or so, and at a higher drag.

So you pulled a 500m at 11 SPI.

I'll pull a 500m at 14 SPI.

At 42 spm, that will be 1:23.

It's very simple. All anybody wants is to see the above changed to..."I DID a 500 at 14 SPI. 42 spm and 1:23" with a screenshot accompanying the sentence. You make hundreds of claims of what you WILL do, but never ever post anything you DID do. You still haven't addressed your claim of never sharpening since 2003, even though Byron posted dozens of posts from you claiming you were sharpening. Were you lying then or are you lying now?

Nope.

Sure, I've gotten excited about doing it a few times, but I have never gotten it done, not even one session.

I haven't done any good sharpening sessions this year, either.

Again, I am getting excited about trying, though.

Over the last few years, I haven't sharpened (i.e., raised the rate in order to go fast) because I haven't had a stable stroke to sharpen with.

I have been working on technique.
