Re: Ranger's training thread
Hey Ranger I see you have Pete in your division at BIRC 2010.
Pete is the creator of RowPro, perhaps you should ask him about it when you see him it would be good way to get out of your cave and do some actual online rowing against people from all over the world.

Pulling a lwt 6:16 for 2K on the erg, which would meet the erging standard for the US National Team, would really undermine my chances of doing well OTW racing against a bunch of 60-year-olds next year, and then on into the future for the next decade.
It's a really worry.
Perhaps that's what keeps me up at night.

Because nay-sayers like you really just parade their own fears by defamation and other sorts of verbal mud-slinging, so it wouldn't do me, you, or anyone else any good for me to show you the results of my workouts?

No, not at all.citroen wrote:But you won't reveal any of the results as that constitutes "racing your training"
I'll be racing my training for the next six months.
That _all_ I'll be doing (besides cross-training).
Time to get sharp as a razor.
If I don't show you the results of this sharpening, it will be because you really have no interest in or sympathy with this training, as you have made abundantly clear, so why bother?

25, 32, 50, 75, 100, and 150 strokes at a time will be the standard bunches, as in everyone else's sharpening.
With as many repetitions as I can muster.
Then I will need 200 strokes when I race 2K.

Re: Ranger's training thread
BTW, the most important 2K predictor for me is already in place: my natural stroking power is now 13 SPI at 145 df.
This has pretty significant consequences for sharpening.
For instance, to do something like 1' on, 1' off at 1:34 in any sort of natural way that would permit them to do lots of reps, other quasi-60s lightweights, who usually have a natural stroking power of 9-10 SPI, have to rate 42-45 spm.
Ouch.
I can do these reps in a 3-to-1 ratio at 32 spm, a rate that some do for 5K, which in terms of duration and strokes taken, is almost 20 times longer.

Re: Ranger's training thread
BTW, at 145 df., pulling 1:34 @ 32 spm (13 SPI, 10 MPS), my drive is indeed a little longer than it is at low rates and low drag (118 df.), which Nav measured (correctly, I think) to be .55 seconds.
My force contour still doesn't come half way across the screen, but almost.
By my measurement, it is now .575 seconds.
That means that I am in a 2.3-to-1 ratio rather than a 3-to-1 ratio when I am rating 32 spm.
Perhaps that's why I like the drag a little higher.
2.3-to-1 is a much more natural racing ratio than 3-to-1.
At race rate and pace, it is _very_ high, even so.
I am in a 2-to-1 ratio at 34 spm, so perhaps that is my most efficient racing rate, rather than 32 spm.
13 SPI @ 34 spm is 442 watts or 1:33.5.

Re: Ranger's training thread
As I have mentioned before, almost all of the best veteran lightweights row a 2K at around 34 spm.
The only thing that differentiates them is their stroking power.
For instance, Mike VB and Rocket Roy both row their 2Ks, 9.5 SPI @ 34 spm.
It looks as though I might row a 2K, 13 SPI @ 34 spm.
My stroke is about 40% stronger.
3.5 SPI @ 34 spm is 120 watts, or right around 10 seconds per 500m.
1:33 vs. 1:43, etc.

I guarantee you've measured this wrong, because you're not capable of discerning a change of 0.025 of a second.ranger wrote: By my measurement, it is now .575 seconds.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Paul, remember this is Rangerphysics he's obviously timing his stroke with a caesium-133 atomic clock. His modified PM4 is now accurate to nanoseconds and the force curve is accurate to a microgram/microNewton.PaulH wrote:I guarantee you've measured this wrong, because you're not capable of discerning a change of 0.025 of a second.ranger wrote: By my measurement, it is now .575 seconds.
But he still won't post any screenshot, he still won't log any workout as IND_V as that would reveal that his "perfect" stroke is only good enough for a 6:50 2K.

If we go back 12 months in tim eor 24 or 36 we can read a 100% exact same post. Everybody even you you knows what the outcome was.ranger wrote:As I have mentioned before, almost all of the best veteran lightweights row a 2K at around 34 spm.

I am waiting for your first race, that will be a succes if you pull it sub 7.

See you there.
The BIRC 55s lwt championship record is mine from back in 2005, but I now think I can lower it 20 seconds or so.

If birc will be your first race, it will be a rowing with breaks, so you are very predictable, it will be plus 7.xx
