If I go along 2:08 @ 24 spm for 4K, capping the rate, just taking it easy, my stroke _is_ as good as Jim Dietz'--and yours.

Right?
Have you forgotten how long head races are at the most competitive levels?
3 miles on up (4800m => 5000m => 10,000 (Silver Skiff))

Until this post you were touting 1:58 as your pace.. Now it's 2:08.

Reminder you are 59 and still in the "Grand Master" class.
A host of people in your class row the HOCR in under 20:30 (4800m).... Do the math. Your 2:08 pace doesn't cut it with that group. It would be a great achievement for someone who trains improperly though.

Will you report your splits for this 'Grand Illiusion' today? To you have such facility?
I've asked nicely several times. just the way a troll likes.
Your silence on this topic has become deafening.

For myself:
I wish I could follow good advice:

Many believe that your troll-like nature is what eliminated you from contention in the C2 IRT selection process years ago. My take? ....If you behaved otherwise you would have made it on the team.

Too bad your feelings were hurt so badly. Is this why you scuttle off to the batcave and concoct idiotic training routines? Is this why you characterize others in such a 'poor light'... and have that charming fascination with excrement? and expletives?

Well you see often those who have mental illness really can't see the state they are in. They will tend to think they are right and all those who fit in the bell curve are wrong. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be an outsider/aesthetic as long as you can live with yourself. Who we are is all based on our own perception and mind set. We are all who we think we are in our own minds, not what others think of us or feel about us.

Best row ever on the best day for rowing ever.

_Gorgeous_ morning here in Ann Arbor--sparkling clear, 50 degrees F., no wind.

16K OTW, after 15K OTErg.

No biking.

I'll do this 16K OTW for a couple of weeks and then add another 5K loop from my neighborhood (Foster Bridge) to Barton Dam, to make it an even HM.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNGES_xbFn4

I will also try to do a daily HM OTErg.

I think it might be best to do my cross-training on my bike in the afternoon/evening.

Yesterday, I ran out of gas OTW, after 15K OTErg and a 90min bike.

Not good.

P.S, The cold nights are now killing the vegetation in the Huron River. It is getting cleaner and cleaner, wider and wider, better and better for rowing.

So much for 3 x the Head of the Grand course r24 with a paddle back. That one lasted what, about 15 hours before consignment to the dustbin of history?

Yea, now, OTW, I do 2:08 @ 24 spm (7 SPI).

Happy with that.

Heck, today, when I pulled hard, I was getting to 2:07 @ 23 spm.

My Fluid is really singing.

Now, if I can get these OTW sessions up to a HM, I'll be golden.

I am starting to feel my blades--in the air, in the water.

I am starting to feel the various angles of leverage--at the catch, in the middle of the drive, at the finish.

My rowing is getting quieter and quieter, cleaner and cleaner.

Ranger, the nay-doer, will never post any meaningful training results.
Ranger, the nay-doer, will never race on the water.
Ranger, the nay-doer, will never pay Henry the money he owes him.
Ranger, the nay-doer, will never go below 6:40 on the erg.

Ranger, the nay-does, will remain a troll.

Number of current world records held by people coached by PaulS is at least 3, including that for your claimed category

Number of current world records held by people coached by your coach is a big fat 0, kind of like your coach

As far as my rowing goes, it doesn't matter what others think about me or feel about me.

It just matters how I row.

What others think and feel about me doesn't affect my rowing at all.

And my rowing is just fine.

I have three WR rows.

Last year, no one my age came within 20 seconds of my 2K, even though I didn't even prepare to race, and was still pulling at max drag.

I get about a dozen seconds over 2K from hard sharpening.

It also helps quite a bit to row well at low drag rather than at high drag.

So, I should be quite a bit better over 2K this year, when I will sharpen and row well at low drag, than I was last year, when I pulled 6:41 at max drag without sharpening.

20 seconds?

This isn't just my imagination, no?

You could think that _you_ were in this situation, but that would just be dreamin'.

Unlike my case, it would just be in your mind.

The 55s lwt WR is 6:38.

This indoor racing season, I turn 60.

The 60s lwt WR is 6:42.5.

The 50s lwt WR is 6:25.1

The 60s hwt WR is 6:23.7.

(The 55s hwt WR is 6:18.2; the 40s lwt WR is 6:18.6)

So, this year, I should be better than a couple of WRs, no problem, and should challenge two, or even four, others.

Sure, you never do something before you do it.

How could it be otherwise?

That is what is so great about training.

Preparation precedes performance.

Those who perform their preparation just get worse.

Really?

Interesting to know.

Who are the three (or more)?

At the end of this indoor racing season, I think I'll officially have four WRs, and implicitly, six.

It's a nice course, just one big bend, one bridge, and a lot of open water.

Byron was kind enough to take me on a tour a couple of weeks ago.

I am looking forward to the race in a month or so.

Sorry, I should have made my question clearer. Yesterday you said you were going to row the course today (3 times, no less). How did it go?

I didn't go today.

My wife wants to go with me, to walk along the river in Lansing while I am rowing, so I am going to go on Wednesday.

She had to work today.

Rowing was gorgeous here, anyway.

Nothing lost.

I will have to fit going up to Lansing with life more generally.

Doing this, isn't entirely transparent.
