Congratulations on completing one of the toughest goals of indoor rowing! I have always been partial to the longer distances, but the marathon is my limit.

Awesome effort, congrats!

Thrashed out a 5Km PB today with the Help of Chad Goss and the Guys.

18:22.9 at 24SPM with an average HR of 175 so am very happy with the 1:50.3 pace.

The next challange is the 8000M in 30 minutes.

That was awesome. Your PB's are much like mines, so I understand what a 5K 18:22 requires. Congrats.

Just did a 7979m 30min as a "Warm up" to the sheduled official 30min PB atempt this Thursday 07:00GMT on RowPro. Just didn't quite make the target, got to raise the rating to 24 SPM.Saw over 8K for a while on the projected finish but couldn't quite hold it together.

Going for 8000M if anyone else wants to join in and give it a go.

Hopefully I have not burned out for the week !

Lol am I the only one using this thread ?

Well the row went pretty well with a second PB for the week in the 30min.

8105M so very happy with this. Rated up to 26SPM from 23SPM and this made it easier. HR nice steady drift till the end with enough gas in the tank to sprint at the finish to hit my max HR.

Lost a few meters due to RowPro using the audio "Row" for the start when compared to my second monitor which starts the clock when it picks up the tach signal. 8109M otherwise. Will have to use the set peice rows for sure on the 500M to 2K for sure as every second counts.

For a lot of us, PBs are definitely a thing of the past. Seasonal PBs and new classification PBs are all that are left.

Now my pb aren't like your's, but I'm only a 5' 7", 165 pounds, 53 year old guy, so, as i can see, in a league of my own... or at least, not in yours...

Congrats.

my first marathon!

Post by gregsmith01748 » July 23rd, 2010, 9:48 am

Hi,
Last night, from about around 9pm to midnight I completed my first marathon.

Time: 2:56:51.0

My goal was to try to keep under 2:50, but it didn't happen. Still, at least it was faster than 3 hours!

It was a pretty tedious experience, but I've been thinking about ddoing it for a while.

I basically rewarded myself with a drink every thirty minutes, starting at the 1 hour mark.

I had some issues with my calves crampimg up, but going strapless for the final 1/3 of the row seemed to help.

The time puts me smack dab in the middle of the c2 rankings for my age group, so I guess I won't feel too bad.

If anyone can help me with a couple of questions I would love the advice.

1. What do people do to minimize stoppage time for drinks? I would klose about 15 seconds to gulp down some water.
2. I tried and failed to cerify my entry using the 16 digit code. I was wondering if this might be because I started on a different day than the one where I finished. Any ideas?
3. I was really thirsty afterward, and pounded down about 40oz of water and gatorade. I felt pretty nauseated after that. I was wondering if there are guidelines about how much and how fast one should drink after something like a marathon.

Btw: I have a huge respect for anyone who does a 100k piece. My hands and butt were so sore by the end, I have no idea how one could persist for 10 flipping hours. You are superhuman.

Unless you were sweating really heavily, 30' between drinks is rather short. That was 4 drink stops - right? I think that you could get by with 3 or even 2 - but evenly spaced - not like the 60'/30'/30'/30' which is implied in your report.

Do you use a log card? If you enter your time using that, you don't need the 16 digit code. Other than that, yes, it might be a date discrepancy. You might try it with each of the possible dates to see if one or the other works. Also, check the time and date setting of the monitor. If that was off, it could really screw things up.

Gulping that much down all at once was definitely a mistake. No matter how badly your body needs the water, it takes time to absorb it and sugar drinks (like Gatorade) make it worse.

Bob S.

P.S. Congratulations on completing a marathon! The next one won't seem so bad.
