All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 7.15.10

Post by Kona2 » July 16th, 2010, 10:51 am

Image Coming to a rower near you in two weeks !! Wait...all summer days are dog days at my house....Image

Thanks, everyone, for celebrating my 7 MM lifetime meters with me! AJ, who challenged me to finish up that milestone, is now rowing 100K ahead of me....for now...and Tiki Man is pouring it on, too! Cycle Oregon looms large, though, and is about 8 weeks away. Gulp...as if watching the Tour de France counted for training time!

With 26 percent of the rowing year now under the boat, might want to look at where you are on the annual meters challenge boards and see if you're tracking to whatever goal you've set for yourself. Easier to catchup now without having to set a killer pace later on....want to avoid injuries (Danno do not pick up any television sets...). Hopefully some that have been on the injured reserve list will soon be able to rejoin the rowing segment !

Season meters as of 76/365 = 12,832,813 m

Total meters on the day = 156,230 m

Oars in space (participation) = 24 percent

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights....Celebrations:

1.1 MM Dan
600K Jim
500K Steven L

Image Will S with another half moon....thinks the moon might shine brightest in August..

And thanks to all today's rowers for all the kinds of meters - they all count!

K2 5,080 m
Steven L 7,214 m
AJ 7,729 m
David T 8,000 m
Image 10,000 m ...and he crosses the 150K mark!
Peter G 10,000 m
Jim 10,009 m
Chris 10,027 m ....just27 takes a break from mooning....
Greg H 12,503 m
Rodrigo 13,261 m
Dan 16,194 m
Rick 18,120 m
Will S 26,093 m

13 million team meters....on the horizon.....

Well I'm back again after a whirlwind road trip to Detroit and back with my mini-van full of in-laws. So now I should be rowing more consistently for a couple weeks; at least until my next big canoe trip. I was there in Detroit to give my nephew support at his wedding. It must have worked. His knees weren't shaking too badly during the service. It really was a beautiful wedding. He actually met his wonderful bride through a church online singles service.

Anyway the drive back was a little like torture.... 720 miles in one day (1150 km) and 2/3 of that was on two lane highways at 55 mph through the U.P. of Michigan. I was using a travel GPS on this trip and it worked great giving me a heads up on which way to turn and having gas station and restaurants locations immediately available at the push of a button. But I had to turn the Garmin lady off (we called her Carmin) when we were leaving Detroit. I punched the buttons to go home and started following her directions for a few miles, then suddenly realized she was routing me through Chicago around the south side of Lake Michigan. So she got too persistent I wasn't going the right direction when we turned around and found our way to the freeway that headed north to Mackinac Bridge. I turned her back on about 50 miles down the road (Saginaw area) and then we were best of friends again.

Driving through the U.P. small towns is actually quite entertaining. We made a stop at the Yooper's Tourist Trap in Ishpeming and had some laughs at the neat guy stuff they had cobbled together - kind of a Red Green type outdoor museum. There was a 57 buick made into a 4 wheel drive with a snow plow; a huge chain saw with a V8 engine; a 2 story outhouse; a 39 chev with a loader; the second week of deer camp scene; etc. And we all had a good laugh seeing this sign on a tavern in a small town we passed through: U.P.Chuck's.

Image Moose in Yooperland in a minivan full of inlaws...a dangerous combination....especially when Carmin is navigating! Fun to program the GPS units to speak in foreign languages... :D Good to have you back (until the next trip!). Also welcome back TWO returning team members - Denise F and Rock T! Great to see you on the 2011 Rowing Roster!

Image We haven't heard from Madame Zoltana, seer of the future lately - so she was contacted today. She says "many milestones coming up this week - Will should easily cross into the 1.7 MM milestone, Rod is close to 700K, David T will hit a cool half million, AJ should get to 300K and Mike M will sail across the 200K line!" The big event, though, is that Danno the Dentisto is less than 10K away from 18th Million Lifetime meters. Wowzer, mates - pretty cool when you consider many of us didn't do any serious rowing until about three seasons ago. Peter G, our man in green, has probably rowed at least 20 million lifetime meters by now!

Image To the moon, mates, to the moon!
Season meters as of 79/365 = 13,251,325 m

Total meters on the day = 221,487 m  :D

Oars in space (participation) = 27 percent! Excellent!

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

Image Will S with a red giant to start the week!
ImageImage Minnie the half marathoner...adds some extra meters just to finish that movie...

And thanks to all who rowed today for all the meters - marvelous, simply marvelous!

Rock 2,000 m
Coulter 2,023 m
Noelle 4,510 m
Peter G 8,500 m
Gail 10,000 m
Mike M 10,000 m
Steven L 10,000 m
Denise 11.177 m
David T 12,000 m
Jim 13,012 m
AJ 14,134 m
Rodrigo-go-go-go 19,144 m
Chris 23,225 m
Dan 32,335 m
Will S 49,427 m

Good rowing to all !
