I am not doing "pieces" yet.

I am just drilling on technique, learning how to row.

Anyway, once you can do it easily, how far you can go at any rate and pace just depends on your physical capacity and fitness.

I don't have any problem with those.

I have those in spades.

So why worry?

I am not rowing OTW to maintain/improve my fitness.

I use the erg for that.

A couple of years ago in my old Peinert, 2:00 @ 30 spm was a limit of sorts for my OTW rowing.

Now, I do 2:00 at 26 spm with the same effort.

If I keep working at it for another year or two, maybe I can move that toward 2:00 @ 22 spm.

I am not racing; I am trying to get better at rowing.

No, my record on the erg is entirely public.

I have three WR rows.

I have won all the major championships, BIRC twice, all in championship record times.

I have now raced something like 30 2Ks at race venues.

My lightweight pb is 6:28.

I have pulled 6:27.5, 6:28, 6:28.5, 6:29, 6:29.7, 6:30, 6:32, 6:32, 6:32, 6:32, 6:33, 6:36, etc.

This last year, no one my age and weight came within 20 seconds of my 2K (6:41), even though I didn't prepare to race.

For my age and weight, I pulled WR pace.

Can't get more "revelational" than that.

No masks at all, Mike.

All out in the glaring lights of race venues.

I'll do the same OTW, when I am ready to race.

It might be nice to learn how to row first, though.

No?

I'm about 47.3 years old, and weigh around 201 lbs. Could you tell me what WR pace for my age and weight is? I haven't found the website where I can look it up, but you clearly have... The C2 people only track WRs for those pesky age brackets, which is useless to me when I try to impress the girls by saying I row at WR pace for my age and weight, because as you've discovered, people are only interested in who has the age bracket WR, and, well, we don't. I would really appreciate it, and if any of the girls I plan to land with this information turn out to be disappointed that I'm not a balding, elderly English professor who spends a lot of time in his basement perfecting his "stroke" I'll be sure to tell them where to find you, thanks!

It depends entirely on how strong the tailwind is.

No wind or current.

By and large, I row on lakes (Europe, Portage, Michigan, etc.) or on the Huron River above the dam (Barton Lake) in the early morning, when there is no wind.

Mike--

So what did you pull for 2K in your 1x at Junior Worlds in your second year of rowing?

You didn't say.

It must have been impressive.

Sure, but only if he can post a video of some 2:00 @ 26 spm, too, so that we could exchange observations and comments.

March 21, 2007: First race, really, is a FM, in about three weeks or so.

August 20, 2007: How about a FM, 1:48 @ 20 spm? Coming up!

November 26, 2007: Before long, I'll be doing a FM 1:48 @ 20 spm (14 SPI).

February 10, 2008: I will also get a lwt FM done this winter.

April 5, 2008: I am doing a FM trial at the end of the month. I'll do my FM trial at 22 spm.

May 7, 2008: This month I will take a slap at the FM and 60min WRs for the 50s hwts.

December 20, 2008: I think I will pull a FM, 1:48 @ 24 spm (12 SPI), before New Years.

April 6, 2009: At the end of the month, I am going to try a FM, 1:48 @ 22 spm.

Dec 27, 2009: I'll race a FM over the next couple of weeks, before I go back to teaching on January 7th.

Feb 11, 2010: That means that within the month, I will row a FM @ 1:45 and 60min at 1:40.

March 30, 2010: Before the end of the month, I will do all of the races, from 500m to FM--all as a lwt. I will do them IND_V and enter them in the 50s lwt rankings.

July 14, 2010: But when I get the FM done, 1:48 @ 22 spm, then we'll know. --snip--We'll know the answer by September 1st.
Thanks for posting that Byron. It is clear to me that he is doing them but just not posting them. Well done Rich but could you post 1 or 2 of your times to take the mystery away and to silence the naysayers.

I usually do 1:44 @ 26 spm OTErg.

So 2:00 @ 26 spm is 16 seconds per 500m above my erg time at the same rate.

With my poor technique, I am still slowing myself down 4 seconds per 500m OTW.

For lightweights, a gap of 12 seconds per 500m between erg times and OTW times is ideal.

More work to do!

Sure, I'll be sharpening from September 1st until BIRC.

For these three months, almost everything I do (when I am not resting) will be 2K predictors.

Lost in the mists of time..

Somewhere I have a clipping of a 1500m in Philly.
In the straight 4 we did 5:04 or 5:05, if I remember it right.
Pretty slow... We won by good margins here in the States but were destroyed abroad.

Well, now that's very interesting. When was that record set? The fastest 2k logged in the C2 database by a 47 year old of any weight is about 6:15. I'm starting to think that maybe you are just pulling numbers out of the air
