Yes, it was private originally.Citroen wrote:Shame that you've marked that video as private so normal folks can't watch it.ranger wrote:Here is some 1:50 @ 22 spm (12 SPI), UT2 for a 6:20 2K. df. is 123
In the video, I am rowing faster than any 60s lwt can row for 5K.

No, I changed it to public.

Are you alright this morning, Rich? I'm a little worried about your condition.ranger wrote:I'm not sure why you keep saying this has already been done, long ago.mikvan52 wrote:Rich, take note. Winning at Henley is a much more prestigous achievement and far greater recognised on the world stage than what you've done on that piece of gym equipment. You need to get away from that erg and get into the mainstream of rowing.
I have been rowing OTW for seven years.
I have a new boat.
Once the weather warms up, I row OTW every day.
I am get better each time I go out.
Beyond that, there is nothing wrong with rowing on the erg.
Anyway.
I have some unfinished business to complete on the erg this coming fall and winter.
I am going to pull a lwt 6:16 at 60.
That will top the 40s lwt WR, the 50s lwt WR, the 55s lwt WR, and the 60s lwt WR, not to mention to 55s hwt WR and the 60s hwt WR.

First: I didn't write that quote.
Second: Your paragraph structure is "shot to hell" again... Even your sentences are deteriorating
"Anyway." is not a complete thought. An adverb modifies a verb a should be associated with a subject.
Also: Where will you find that lightweight you are going to pull somewhere when you turn 60?

Did you mean to say you are going to pull a lightweight four sixteen miles down the highway at 60 mph behind your car?

Sorry, I just don't get it.

I should go easy on you, I know. Typing is hard for older men.

ehhh 1.50 pace for 5k takes 18.20 so you need to make that clip a bit longer.

But the good thing is, you seem to be able to stay away from the cookie jar, you haven't developed a pot belly yet like you did in the last 8 years out of season. Good job !

Sorry about the misquote.mikvan52 wrote:Are you alright this morning, Rich?
I guess I am a bit excited.
This morning, I'm going to do my first 20K session OTW.
Then I'll try to hold it there for the rest of the summer and fall.

To avoid any confusion, why don't you first tell us about the things you believe are wrong with your stroke, before the nay-sayers here project their negativity onto you by pointing out what they mistakenly believe are your flaws?
Re: Ranger's training thread
We all have "flaws" in our stroke, and most of us are aware of them.PaulH wrote:To avoid any confusion, why don't you first tell us about the things you believe are wrong with your stroke, before the nay-sayers here project their negativity onto you by pointing out what they mistakenly believe are your flaws?
But these flaws in my stroke, such as they are, just don't matter much, given that I am a 60s lwt doing 1:50 @ 22 spm (12 SPI) at UT2, just pulling naturally.
This is in the range of 10 seconds per 500m better than any 60s lwt has been able to do.
My stroke is now entirely adequate for my purposes.
Like everyone, I keep working on my flaws as much as I can.
And like everyone, no matter how much I work on my flaws, some will remain.

So that's 10 strokes of 1:50@22spm (taking your word for it, even though your word is worth shit). Was your HR already at 155 when you stopped? Is this what you consider steady state rowing?
Your latest delusion is that this is a "FM stroke" that would give you the fastest 5K ever by a 60 yr old (if and when you actually row a 5K at this pace when you turn 60 several months from now). You therefore admit that you haven't even rowed 5K straight yet with your "marathon" stroke.
You have a LOT of york ahead of you.
Oh, and I pity your poor fluid if this is how you row on the water. See how your erg is jumping around?
Not a good sign.

Re: Ranger's training thread
RICH: On a serious note: I have been meaning to ask you about all these videos of you sequestered in your garage............... How far out of level is your garage floor? I see a rack on the wall in the background which I assume was installed level. I compare this to the aspect of your erg. It seems that the floor of your garage is sloped, as is often the case: Your building contractor would have wanted a way to allow your "pools-o'-sweat" to drain out to the street gutters.ranger wrote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4h1pfhDke0
We do see what appears to be a 4x4 block against the garage door (is it?). I'm thinking you require this to restrain the erg from "goin' ballistic".
Do you know that C2 suggests that ergs should be rowed on the level. Novel concept, don't you think? Maybe you've chosen to row on a sloped floor so that you can be doing land training for white water kayak?

Do let us know about the floor. A 4-ft carpenters level will do the trick.

10 strokes on the video, to illustrate (all the flaws that remain in) my technique.
Off camera, I average about 3000 strokes a day, half on the erg and half OTW.

Re: Ranger's training thread
You only get a real idea of your stroke if you take a clip of a real test/race etc. What you posted has nothing to do with the technique you really use. So it's useless.ranger wrote:Yep.macroth wrote:So that's 10 strokes of 1:50 @ 22 spm

Identical faults
Run them in parallel. Then explain what's changed, apart from the lighting, the bookshelves and the kit Ranger is wearing.
