The issue now is efficiency, not speed.

Next year, when I am 60, if I do the three miles at the Head of the Charles, 2:00 @ 29 spm, I win going away.

For veterans, that's the course record.

A lot of ifs about this.
IF you can get an entry.
IF you can row three miles without a break.
IF you can get round the corners without hitting a bridge.
IF you can row 2:00 r29...

You won't get an entry, even if you try. You can't just rock up. You'll have to do other races...
You won't be able to do 2:00 r29 for 3 miles without a break. Or many of them.
You probably will be able to go round the corners without hitting a bridge - but you will have to slow down going round corners. Hence, you will have to go even faster on the straights to maintain that 2:00 r29.
Which you can't do in the first place.

Do I have this straight?

#1 : Ranger gets his new Fluid delivered (last week)...

#2 : THE "Wind-bagger" has an impeller attached on the brand-spanking-new hull.

#3 : impeller "somehow" gets lost during one of the first few rows the hull "intefaces" w/water
  :P

What did you hit?

Maybe you should stick to the erg...

Tell us the story of how your bike lost its pedals again. Did a tree fall on it or sum-ting?

Don't forget to order a roof rack for transport and to remove the spin device on the impeller while driving.
Consult the NK site for details.

When your first event in the "Wind-bagger" again?

If only ranger would fess-up and post what he does for 3 miles right now.. Whatever the time is now is nothing to be ashamed of... It would give all of us in the peanut gallery a way to gauge his progress.

Isn't vanity a bitch?

He won't post a 5K ergo time, so you're wasting your time asking for a 3mile time (which is close to 5K). He's not making progress he hasn't made any progress since his lapsed WR rows in 2003.

Of course.

Training is entirely hypothetical and future-oriented.

I am just mentioning goals, not achievements.

The 2:00 @ 29 spm for 3 miles is what I am working _toward_.

If it ever happens at all, it is off in the future somewhere.

I didn't hit anything.

When I put the boat in the water for the first time, I had no impeller and therefore no readings for pace and distance on my speed coach.

If the impeller was ever there, and I assume it was, I don't know when it was lost.

As I understand, impellers can snap off if twisted sideways.

It might have been snapped off in transport, when Gord and I covered the boat and put it on my car in Port Huron.

I don't know.

NK is sending me a new impeller.

I still have the original impeller on my Peinert.

I haven't have any problem with it for the seven years I have been using it.

Lovin' my new Fluid.

It's a torpedo!

Compared to the Fluid, the Peinert is a barge.

I am now getting out OTW every day, just before sunrise, after erging and breakfast.

I suppose I could put the impeller from the Peinert on the Fluid, but then again, I'm not sure I want to mess up the impeller on the Peinert, too.

Well, at least it's that and not the fact that you can't achieve your goal.

My goals are ultimates.

They are not measures of success or failure.

Last year, no one my age and weight (or older) came within 20 seconds of my 2K time, even though I didn't prepare to race.

Then, my goals are six seconds per 500m beyond that.

So, I can fall short of my goals but still be wildly successful--this year, next year, _any_ year.

Ultimates keep you motivated, unsatisfied, trying to be better.

So I like think in terms of ultimates, rather than in terms of contingencies more easily achievable nearby.

As it turns out, this is easy to do.

So, I did it.

The impeller on the Peinert just screws off from the mount and then can be used on the Fluid.

Nice.

It took you that long to figure out how to unscrew something? Haven't you been doing this for years, Rich?

He's been screwing things up for years — it's unscrewing things that is a new experience for the nutty prof
