LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Hi Folks,
Long time - no post!
Hope all are well - and I won't even begin to try and congratulate all the milestones in my absence - I am certain there are "stellar" quantities of them!
Sadly my best intentions were not enough to overcome my shoulders reluctance to co-operate (last time I was on here, it felt great after a particularly well placed Cortisone injection, however it was just masking the problems as I quickly found out!). I've found myself steadily getting more frustrated as it turns out I have multiple issues to sort out (AC joint degenerated, Rotator cuff tear and damage to the Labrum tissue... yay!! ). All the x-rays and ultrasounds showed virtually nothing, it was the MRI that revealed all...
Now waiting for the surgeons time to advise and hopefully sort out the mess, so it will be a while before I do anything meaningful on the erg. I have rolled a few meters over the last couple of months, however didn't get them into the on-line logbook till today, so the end of last season was a bit of a waste (not that they amounted to much!).
Anyhoo, the good news is that I am still around, and I do still have good intentions for this new season - just don't know when that will seriously start for me...
Best regards to all,
Dave

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Dave, I'm so sorry to hear that you've been through so much with your shoulder. I know from my personal experience that it's been very helpful just to have the connection to this group through various struggles and life stress, regardless of how many meters I actually row. Keep connected and continue on with your journey. If anything, you'll appreciate your rowing so much more once you're able to get back on the erg and join us on our journey to the moon. I'm trying to row a minimum of 30 minutes every day. I miss a day or two, but I'm trying to keep it simple -- one foot in front of the other; baby steps. For me, getting on my erg has become less about the physical exercise and more about the sense of community and personal therapy. As you heal your shoulder, perhaps just sit on the seat and glide back and forth.Dave_H wrote:Hi Folks,

Thomas, Janet, and I headed down to the Opera House today to welcome home Jessica Watson after her epic round the world voyage. And what a welcome home Sydney gave her.
And, what a remarkable young lady. The speech she gave was inspirational and made me proud to be Australian! And what a great ambassador she is for teenagers!
She put meaning into one of my favourite sayings..."Those who don't think it can be done, shouldn't bother the person doing it".
I hope you get a chance to view her home coming….
Good onya Jess!
Cheers, Baz

Re: KUDOS to the team!!!
Kudos to everyone on the great 2009-10 finish ... and, it looks like we're off to a most excellent start of the new season. My goal is to score a pair of rowing pants from C2 before next May!Kona2 wrote: 1. Age Without Limits, 453 members, 571,183,890 meters

After being gone for 3 weeks, I had to put on my gloves after a half hour tonight ... those callouses go away very quickly. Also, the monitor was dead, so for the first time since fall 2007 the batteries needed changing. Good thing that didn't happen during my marathon, I would have cried ... must remember to check that if I ever go the distance again!
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Here's a link to the US coverage of Jessica Watson's finish to an epic adventure! What an amazing teen - and, dang, her parents must have nerves of steel ! Thanks, Bazzy, for bringing this story forward to the team.

Is there no end to these injuries and illnesses, seems like everyday we have a new member on the DL.
David H
Sorry to hear of your injury and the frustration it causes. Hang in there! I've still got 2 months before I can pull with any strength. Once repaired you will be good as new.
Minnie,
Welcome home. I trust you had a great holiday.
Hang in there Lunatics

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Thanks for the encouragement and good advice people!
Lots of good vibes around today thanks Chris... Jessica Watson yesterday was (as Bazzy & K2 mentioned) inspirational, and then overnight Mark Webber absolutely smashed the F1 qualifying at Monaco - "the driver's circuit" in the F1 season. As a long time fan this is a huge achievement!
Proud to be an Aussie!

Woohoo! Another teammate back in the boat! Brings us to a total of 39 and a clone. Welcome back Gail !
Whoa....it's the need for speed! Those Formula-1 cars are very cool, Dave. Check out the Mark Webber Monaco video that shows him "driving" the Red Bull simulator through the course. Wonder how many hours he puts in on the simulator for each course? RB, as the sponsor, is a big supporter of many athletes in the US as well. They (RB) built a halfpipe practice area for snowboarder Shaun White - so I guess having a simulator this fancy is pretty stock stuff these days!
