Yes, this is what many on this forum think.

oh, oh, oh

How wrong you are.
What's to do?

Your stroke is fixed. There are no outstanding skeletomuscular issues. You have, by your own admission, been sharpening since January. And sharpening is the endpoint of training.

So, what's to do?

I have dropped the drag to 135 df. (from max drag).

I have lifted the rate on my distance rowing to 30-32 spm.

I have not yet done distance trials.

I have not yet sharpened.

In 2006, without sharpening, distance rowing, or distance trials, I pulled 6:29.7 for 2K.

And this year , without sharpening, distance rowing, or distance trials, you pulled 6:41 for 2K.
12 seconds slower, this makes you better ..how?

The query was about evidence for my improvement.

So I gave some.

If you dismiss it, so it goes.

No, the 6:41 I pulled this year is not evidence for much, but so it goes.

Why didn't I do better this year in my 2K races?

The max drag I rowed at was a mistake this year, I think.

No problem, though.

I have corrected this.

In any event, pulling at max drag, I was six seconds faster over 2K than any other 55s lwt, even though I am 59, and without even preparing for it.

That's not a bad position to be in, I would say.

And none of my peers have pulled better than 6:42.
Rocket has. Oh, no, you're right. You and Rocket aren't peers. He's beaten you whenever you've raced.

I think you've got Ranger slightly out of context (note: I'm not defending him). He probably meant "None of my peers, if I look carefully at the annals of history and cherry pick a year when they didn't or couldn't race against me, have pulled better than 6:42". He's probably refering to the 2009/2010 season, but without explicitly stating that (as is his normal MO). His habit of picking random stats from the ether is almost as annoying as his habit of using "if"/"when"/etc. inappropriately.

Calm down. There are still 8 days to go. This is plenty of time to rank the other 9 events.

We won't ever get times for distance rows in IND_V (this year or any year)... but there's always those narcissistic videos!
Notice the head on the drive... He now rows "well" but he still can't stop the backward jerking motion of his neck after 7 years of trying to eradicate it. It was there in his WIRC victory when r-boy was a spritely 52; it's still here in vestigial form today.

Best "necked-rowing" I've ever seen! :P I wonder if that's part of the DLS form he picked up from Elskid?
Perfect form for 2k of rowing simulated by means of a chain to bungee cord confabulation. :|

Hey! Let's take a look at Elskid and see what he does with his head!

Well, ranger and Ebbensen are similar in that they both have two arms and two legs....

Rocket who?

At the moment, no one by that name is even racing.

If he returns, he will have trouble pulling 6:50.

I meant, none of my peers historically.

The 60s lwt WR is 6:42.

The major focus for me now, in terms of racing, is BIRC 2010.

I want to put the 55s lwt WR where it should be, somewhere _waaaay_ below 6:30.

That will be a nice warm up for WIRC 2010, when I will be 60.

Nothing at all wrong with my stroke now.

Proof is in the pudding.

I now have the rate of my distance rowing up to 30-32 @ 11 SPI.

Long, smooth, and quick.

Drag is now 135 df.

Drag in the video is max.

If things go well this next year and I reach my goals, Eskild and I will similar in another way, time over 2K on th erg.

Exciting prospect!

We differ pretty radically in age, though.

I am 22 years older.

Give up what?

The work I am doing on my rowing has nothing to do with fitness.

It has to do with effective and efficient rowing.

When I race, I'll now pull 8 MPS, 11 SPI, and (perhaps as high as) 40 spm.

Delighted about this.

BTW, Butsch has informed us that checks are now in the mail for record-breakers at the Chicago venue this winter.

$200 this time, for breaking the CIRC championship record (by 20 seconds).

Next year, I should nab that $1000 prize, for a new 60s lwt WR.

If I set the 55s lwt WR at WIRC 2010, then by the end of next year, I'll have both.

I want to put the 60s lwt WR under 6:20.

The limit of my ability, I think, if I can realize it fully, is 6:16.
