Last week was lighter regarding evening events and obligations, so fitting in the evening sessions of rowing seemed easier. This next week may not be the same. I'm already thinking about fudging on part of my goals. What I should be doing is figuring out how to use my time with the utmost efficiency, so I can continue with my goals even with an increased number of obligations. Right?

Another thought, am I just starting to fudge because it's hard?

It is called balance. We have to balance our lives and re set goals. It is nearing the end of a very long rowing season. We all tend to suffer a little what I categorize as burnout.I, myself, have felt the need to slow down my rowing and focus on other things at the moment. There are life projects that have taken center stage. My body doesn't like rowing right now..I have been assessing my fitness skills and overall program. To be on a certain list of meters rowed has not been my goal for a long time.My goal is to be self competitive and not team/member competitive.I use it as a motivational tool. But try not to focus on the ranking list.As I age I find differences in my way of thinking and working out.
Hang in there Linda..you are a really awesome rower and seem to be having results..but one objective is fun and if you are not having fun..rethink your goals.
I am getting terrible shin pulls from my rowing and have overcome my elbow problems and hand and wrist issues. But I have been experiencing leg discomfort that reminds me of shin splints. If I stop rowing the legs heal rather quickly.Go back to a killer row and my legs cry for help.
AACCKK.....

I'm finding that as I age, I am more easily injured when I try to pick up my speed. I am very slow, although I am putting some short sprints into each workout and it appears to be helping to gradually increase the number of meters rowed in each 30 minute session.

I'm taking great care with my left elbow because it has some slight irritation at the moment. I've also been taking my glucosamine supplement, and my knees have not been giving me problems. I either row without the straps or with very loose straps; does that help prevent shin problems?

I'm sort of testing to see if rowing a larger number of daily meters will help with weight loss by the end of the season. My knee problems (i.e., too much weight on the knees) have prevented me from playing tennis for several years, so I gave myself an inital weight goal that I thought my knees could handle while playing tennis. I had less than 10 pounds to lose to reach that initial goal, but now it's 15; that's 60 pounds of pressure off my knees if I can do it. I've tried combining different exercise programs over the past few years without success but have never tried such a large number of daily meters before. Now's the time to try it!

Back "in the day" when I would row 3 to 4 times a day for the Challenges..i could drop over 10 pounds. It was the best weight loss activity ever.My legs would transform in front of my eyes.Where I have no real weight issue..this was always just the boost I needed to keep me in check.. But now I couldn't do the 3 times a day..times constraints and lack of desire and overuse injuries.I made it like a full time job..really.But those were "the days".. Oh, sigh...I remember them well..
