First official regatta today and it was a blast! Watching the other races was so much fun, especially the 4x500 relay which was really exciting.
In the men's open we had heats which I advanced from with a 6:52 or 6:53. The final was a few hours later and I was able to achieve my goal of sub-6:40. What really surprised me was the incredible difference of effort between the two rows, even though it was only 13 seconds. I don't wear a HRM but the first one seemed easy...just cruising at 26-27 spm. The PB time was the near blackout we all know and love.
NICE JOB ADAM!
Agree with Nav on the sub 6:30 in your future, you sure have been improving quickly.

Great effort, congrats pal!

Managed to get a PB for a 60' row yesterday. Started out with a steady28r keeping the pace at 1:50 for the first 30' then I increased the rate to 30-31 while dropping the pace down to a 1:49.6. With 10' to go I knew I would break my PB, however, it was getting harder and harder to maintain the 1:49.6 pace, and I slowly lost sometime over the last few minutes. Finished with a 16,392 about 61 meters better than previous PB. I did a lot of slow rowing(hours a day) at a slow rate (20-24r) for me over the past month which really helped my technique and strength.

Another PB today, moved the drag factor up to 144 (I train and race at 125df, however, I have used 130df in the past with very good results too) and kept an average SR of 45 which produced a PB of 130.6 for 500 meters. Legs are feeling a lot stronger since the Holiday Challenge. Hope to improve on a few other shorter distances in the next few days/weeks. Once again all the low rating workouts (row for 1 to 3 hrs at 22-26spm has done the trick) last month have done a great job improving my technique and strength. Still race at a high spm (2k 36, 10k 33, HM 32, M31) but my height may be the reason, however, I am really trying to row at a slower rating (down to 16-20spm during some of my workouts)
Thanks Gregory, David and hjs.

New PB in the 1K today, 3:14.8
Based on my age group (40-49), that's now my strongest distance based on C2 logbook percentiles with my 500 being next. I think that tells me what distances I'm going to compete in for my first meet next month.

Today, we had a boathouse-wide 2k erg-off. This is one of my last 2ks before I graduate, so I was really pumped. I wanted to go somewhere around 6:18. I was at 1:34.9 pace with 500 to go and managed to pull 1:32.3 for the last 500 to get a 6:16.9. Woot.
I also finally achieved my lifetime goal of having my 2k be 10 splits better than my 6k, and I'm never doing a 6k again so the difference can only increase!

Nice job, swimmer-man!
I had the opposite experience yesterday, flaming out at the end instead of putting the hammer down. End result: a flat split (.0, .1, .2, .1) 6:32.4. I was aiming for 6:30 or less. Oh well, there's always next year!

Nav,
I'm tempted.
Since I'm carless and in Manhattan, it seems that taking my bike on a NJ transit train to the Bay Street Station (nearest accessible station) might be the best bet. A cab ride from Glen Ridge or Bloomfield can't be that expensive, either.

2k PR today - 6:27.7
2.7 seconds off from my goal of 6:25, but a 9 second PR nonetheless, so I was pretty happy.

50 km today. 4 1/2 hours including bathroom break, hip stretches and a lot of whining...heh heh heh
No real pace changes - it was more mental work. And I found a new type of pain never experienced before
My insides hurt on this one.
