I was lucky and really didn't have pain. I did have a gelsport pad under my bum, and I tried really hard to keep good form no matter how slow I had to go. The only issue I had were my hands getting a little raw. I had had gloves on (biking gloves) for the first 2/3 of the time and took them off for the last third. They might have done more harm than good, not sure.
I kept myself entertained by loading a concert video into the DVD player (music and something to focus my eyes on, ya know)... Janet Jackson Live in Hawaii. The hardest bits were each time I stopped 15 seconds or so to drink more water (wanted to stay ahead of hydrating, so I planned stops at 10,000 and 15,000 meters)... restarting the rower from dead stop and messing up my rhythm really bothered me, but I'm not coordinated enough to row and drink at the same time. Plus, in the second half I kept nagging myself with bad psychology... "You already rowed longer than you ever have before, you could quit..." "You already rowed farther than you ever have before, you could quit..." When I hit 5,000 meters left, I gave myself one last mental boost and said I either had to stop now or commit to finish. Once the ticker went under 4,000 I knew I'd make it.

March Madness
"5000 meters a day keeps March Madness at bay"

The Details
Choose from two levels of participation:
The Basic Challenge: Row or ski 5000 meters each day for 25 days or more in March.
The Advanced Challenge: Row or ski 10,000 meters each day for 25 days or more in March.
This is an individual challenge. You do not need to belong to a team to participate.
Meters must be entered online in your online logbook.
Indoor rower and SkiErg meters only (no on water/on snow meters please).
Who Can Participate
Anyone with an online logbook at concept2.com can participate in this challenge.
Incentives and Rewards
Prize drawings are held every day from all the people who have rowed/skied at least 5000 meters that day and entered it in their online logbook. The more days you row/ski 5000 meters, the more you increase your chances of winning!
On randomly selected days during March, we will draw for an additional prize from those who row/ski at least 10,000 meters.
Prizes vary from day to day, but will include Concept2 clothing, heart rate monitors, Concept2 drinking glasses and some surprises!
Drawings are held at (or soon after) noon each weekday for the previous day, so be sure to enter your meters promptly! We will post names of winners on the web site. Winners will be encouraged to send a photo and brief story to be posted as well.
Hall of Fame—All those who are on-track for rowing/skiing at least 5000 meters at least 25 days during the month of March will be listed in the March Madness Progress Board and will be able to download a specially designed certificate.

World Rowing Challenge
The World Rowing Challenge runs every year from March 15–April 15. Get a team together and see how many meters you can row!
The Details
Each team rows as many meters as they can collectively between 12:00 a.m. March 15 and 11:59 p.m. April 15.
This is a team challenge. You must belong to a team to participate. This is not the same as your club affiliation in your profile. See "Information for Team Members" below.
Teams must consist of at least two (2) people.
Important: Complete the following tasks by April 1 or your team will not be enrolled in the challenge and/or your team members' meters will not count for the challenge:
Your team must be enrolled in this year's WRC. (See the Team Administration page for details.)
All team members must be added to your team.
Team members who have their own logbooks must indicate in their logbooks that they are actively participating in the current challenge. (See the Team Member page for more information.)
Team members may only be deleted from the team before midnight ET on April 1. No team members can be deleted after April 1.
Indoor rower meters only (no on water, SkiErg, or on snow meters please).
Meters must be entered online. Because of the large number of participants in the challenge, we cannot accept results via phone, fax or email. We suggest that any members who have access to the internet create their own profile so that they can enter their own results.
Meters rowed each week should be entered no later than midnight on Friday of that week. This works on the honor system. It makes it fair and fun for everyone if you can watch the progress of the teams that you are competing against.
Deadline for entering meters: Sunday, April 18, 2010 at midnight ET.

Hi Teammates,
I am going to be doing less rowing for awhile as I try and train for a walking marathon. I use my crutches to walk and feel all of my rowing has strengthened my arms and of course my cardio. I don't want to let the team down so I will try and do 5K a day to help out. Go TimbukToo!!!

It is great to cross train and make your fitness programs and health programs diverse.
Your meters are amazing and don't worry about not rowing as much.
