I am going to be 25 seconds better over 2K by the end of April.
I'll beat the 55s lwt WR you set almost five years ago next week in Chicago.
Next year, the projection is that, unless you change your training radically and invest in your base, rather than just training to race, you will be 10 seconds slower that your old self, when you were 55.

Many factors interact to reduce the efficiency of the respiratory system in elderly individuals. Elastic tissue deteriorates throughout the body and reduces the lungs’ ability to inflate and deflate. The rib cage does not move as freely because of arthritic changes. This, in combination with the changes in elasticity, causes a reduction in chest movement which limits respiratory volume. These changes contribute to the reduction in exercise performance and capabilities seen with increasing age.

I have just started to sharpen.
I haven't done even one distance trial.
Most people (like Rocket Roy, Mike VB, and Bob. S.) _just_ sharpen (and do distance trials), when they want to prepare to row a fast 2K.
They don't do anything else.
Measured in those terms, I have barely begun to train.
As I have said, everyone gets about a dozen seconds each over 2K from hard distance rowing and sharpening.
When they have a 2K coming up, that's why they do it--exclusively!
It is the easiest way to get a quick leg up on rowing 2K faster than you might, if you didn't do it.
Short rows.
For a few weeks.
Intense, sure, but short and sweet.
Doesn't take up much time.
You can do it on your lunch hour!

Mike VB: 39 minutes a day.
Talk to Pete Marston.
He'll tell you how to do it.
He's only gotten 10 seconds worse over the last few years.

I ran the half mile and mile on the track when I was in High School and College.
Felt exactly the same, if you didn't do enough speed work.
When we went to away track meets in High School, my half-miler friends and I used to carry along big bottles of Vicks Formula 44 to quell the hacking cough that we would get after each race.
Doesn't have anything to do with age.

I will be sharpening, racing, and doing distance trials for the next 10 weeks.
During this time, I will establish a complete set of current--lightweight--pbs.

Seems like ranger is letting his inconsistency slip. He's improved by 7 seconds, he claims, but also claims that the sharpening and hard distance rowing that will get him an extra 25 seconds haven't started yet (despite having earlier claimed that he started sharpening around the start of the year).
So, his rowing improved by 7 seconds without sharpening or distance rowing (still to come), and without improving his base (which he'd already finished). has he, perhaps, changed his headwear to make that improvement?

Remind me if I am wrong, but I thought I said just the opposite.
My row today was pretty disappointing.
I thought I was going to row 6:30 (or under), but it looks as though I will have to wait a couple of weeks to do that.
So, I am somewhat more behind schedule than I thought.

Fabulous effort and I certainly believe You can do better. The man from the cellar (great Youtube videos, more of those please) show up to settle things, I like that! Zapotek, the bumblebee and You are a great inspiration to newbies like me, who will never achieve anything in the eyes of the elite.
Please don't shut down this thread. The thrill and suspense is immense. I have to go all the way back to my chldhoods reading of 'The adventures of Tom Sawyer' in 1973 to compare it to something of similar experience.
Most impressive is, that You performed with 3.7% more watts than the (MvB) winner of the 55-59 agegroup World Championships. That is actually a lot.

I hail You, but have a little prayer - it would be a thrill to see more data on your splits, spm etc. Just to prye,

What's the schedule again? I wasn't aware there ever was one that had dates attached to them? "I think I'll by (such and such a date)" is not a part of a schedule.
Also: Even though the racing season is ending for you there's no reason why you cannot finish your sharpening and post your best, fully sharpened time.. Is there?
As for your posting other distances in the rankings: That would be an innovation for you which would be welcomed by your readership.
