time for lunch; as distasteful as they might be, I'll be dining on my words of doubt about our hero's performance.
I'd congratulate him but he's such a meanspirited, self-absorbed, preening jerk I can't bring myself to do that.
I would note he is still a ways away from bettering Bob Spousta's performance, despite ranger's continued belittling of that worthy.

And Roy's record still stands: 6:38.1
Rich has shot his "UT1" wad, is :00.4 slower than last year, and has still zero prospects for the 6:28 ...
He'll end up with the fastest 55-59 lwt piece for 2010 on the erg.
I cannot see who will challenge him prior to april 30, 2010....
We'll undoubtably hear about "fastest time by a 59-yr-old ever" too
"pleased with that"
But this is about it, last year he also did this and after that he was finished.
6.28 is impossible, let alone 6.16 but nevertheless well done.
BTW this is a nice goal for your Mike for next season, tough sure but possible.
Tsk, tsk ...
Most disappointing for the 100 million meter man that is the best lwt of all time with the perfect stroke and all ...lintonwilson wrote:Ranger,,,,6:41.4 as a Lt.Wt.
Very fortunate that the indoor racing season lasts much longer here in the US I think.

Isn't this a complete replay of last year? - complete failure on the first attended race, a no-show at Boston and then a 6:41 a week or so laterlintonwilson wrote:Ranger,,,,6:41.4 as a Lt.Wt.

Yes and as such it should be no surprise. Unless you believe he didn't sharpen last season. A bit faster then I predicted but nothing too surprising. He may even go a couple of seconds faster. Don't think he can break the WR but it is possible.BrianStaff wrote:Isn't this a complete replay of last year? - complete failure on the first attended race, a no-show at Boston and then a 6:41 a week or so laterlintonwilson wrote:Ranger,,,,6:41.4 as a Lt.Wt.
Re: rangerworld
I agree 100%, I would normally be the first to congratulate anybody on a great race, but it is so difficult to do with Rich. I have met a lot of the top guys, Dennis H, John Harvey, Roger Prowse, Jean Paul, RR, Rick B, Rocket Man, Graham Benton, Big Bird etc, all nice guys, but Rich stands alone in managing to wind me up!!leadville wrote:time for lunch; as distasteful as they might be, I'll be dining on my words of doubt about our hero's performance.

Roy Brook has the 55-59 record at 6:38.1 from 2006.
I don't know what Roy's age was at the time.
However there's a 7.7 second difference from age 55 to 59 based on WR age times.
Therefore Rich's 6:41.4 is superior to any previous 55-59 times, but not to Brian Bailey's 60+ WR of 6:42.5.

An impressive row
Somewhat slower than the predicted [predictable] 6:30. I wonder what the splits were.
I have rather lost track but our hero has admitted to some sharpening this time around I think. So less than 12 seconds to gain
Doubtless he will emerge shortly and claim that he wasn't quite 'up for it' and it was just an AT row, etc.

The age group WR is what it is.John Rupp wrote:Roy Brook has the 55-59 record at 6:38.1 from 2006.

If you think it is necessary to start making artificial comparisons based on age then you need to compute all the other relative factors: V02 max, fast twitch:slow twitch, %age nasal hair, etc.

There are no records for 59 year olds, the record is for 55-59, what next weight/height adjustment?
