The late 10K race today only has two rowers. The early race is full. So anyone that hasn't raced (Pirate?) can join us at 22:00 GMT.

Alain is the turtle 41:15.0 is the target. Starts on "ROW".
Canoeist, target time is 35:23 and has a 5:52 wait.

If Phil isn't scared, I will give the blinkin sandbagger a 28 second head start - even though he demonstrated last weekend that he can avoid being swallowed by the shark.

Regards,

Paul Flack

I spent way to many hours on the water and my body wasn't ready for it. After the blisters, the sunburn, and the strained muscles, I was all set for an invigorating chase on the erg. But, seeing that you have likewise injured yourself, it looks like I am in for a relaxing cruise this evening. Unlike you Mr. Pirate, I will show up at the start just so I can get one or two points for my team.

I rowed a single, a double and a four. The four was a blast! It really makes you appreciate the teamwork that goes into a crew boat. The boat was very stable compared to a canoe, but it had a fine balance point that was critical so that both sides could get their oars out of the water without digging in. When we all got balanced and pulled, the boat flew.

The coach was great. He was a cox in college, but took up rowing later in life because he couldn't stand to be away from the sport. I am trying to get him into erging, but he is still believes that "ergs don't float". He likes computers and he likes to row, so the odds are that he will be on-line when the lake freezes over.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Although I think you should now modify this to read: "Unlike you Mr. Payton..." - I blew it today and missed the event completely. Sorry folks - I have no excuse, simply overslept despite the 5:40am alarm. I hope you'll accept my apologies.

How did the early event go?
At least you can get the row in.

We had one technical difficulty, but other than that it was a great race. Talk about the shark chasing the minnow..... I didn't think I could catch Ron, but with about 800 left I was really eating into his lead, with 200 left I though I had him, but he really dug deep and beat my by 0.4 seconds. I think he's missing a couple of scales on his tail fin.

I think that was the closest finish yet on one of these races. Frank hung with me for about 5K and then I surged a little and that seemed to break him. Hennie rowed like a madman for I swear 8K, but in the end he just couldn't make it all up.

For me anyway, this was the most fun I've had so far in a race. It was great.

Jeff

(made a little sprint, but it wasn't good enough)

Congratulation with your new pbs I think I did match mine and I'm not unsatisfiet!

After the race and the 2k cooldown. Jeff and I did an other 10K. and that was relaxing (thx Jeff).

By the way it was a very long time to wait

Hennie
I have not been online much recently and have not had any success with rowpro since it moved to 1.708. Basic problem is that others can see me in chat but do not receive my messages and I never get the ready button activated to race. Rowpro sent me mail saying they have fixed the problem but this will be my first test.

My SB is 41:20.0 (really just a fast workout). My PB is 39:47.9. I like to break 40 but I am doing this right after my run so probably 40:30 is realistic. I don't think it would be fair to use the 41:20.

I am also teamless...

andy

Mark, sorry you couldn't make it to the late race. We had plenty of room and the race went off without a hitch technically. Physically, we had a few problems with the heat and humidity, but it was a good race overall.

Frank, my cut and paste isn't working for putting results here, but you can look up the final times and figure out the points. Andy was the turtle with a target time of 41:20. Captain started 0:05 later and the two stayed right together for 5K. I started 5:57 after Andy and hunted both. Andy started to fail around 6K. I gobbled him up with 2K to go. Captain was holding a fast pace and there was no chance for desert. Captain finished around 35 seconds ahead of target. I was 18.3 seconds slower than target. But, hey, that is another easy win against the hapless Pirate.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Sorry Mark did make it either, I was hoping he would drop in. I don't know why I thought I could go for a 40 minute run in 34°C (93°F) dry heat (at 5pm) and then row a fast 10k. I was not intending to go all out but I thought 2:02-3 was reasonable. The first 3-4k was fine, just cruisin', really just going fast enough to stay in front of Alain. But passing 4k, I really started to overheat and decided it was better to live and row another day. I ended up slowing down and taking 3 breaks for water. At least now I know that rowpro will work for me.

BTW, Alain had a smashing row.

andy

I was walking around, getting a drink, watching a little Wimbledon.....

Jeff
