No you won't - as you say yourself, everyone sharpens in about the same way, with about the same effect; 12 seconds, gained pretty evenly over 6 weeks. If you were to improve more than that then what you have claimed all along would be wrong, and you've made it abundantly clear that you're right.

Some of my improvement over the next couple of months will not be due to sharpening.

Some of it will be due to distance rowing and distance trials.

I have been combining the two.

In my sessions these days, I do distance rowing for an hour or so and then sharpening for an hour or so.

I didn't complete distance trials before I started to sharpen.

So my progression from distance rowing to sharpening hasn't been entirely clean.

Impetus to post: Asking myself: "Self? Why does ranger say he row all his stroke at over 11 or even 13 spi and then we a much lower number in what he calls a UT1 effort ?...."
UT1 rows are done at a lower SPI.
You should work for Fox News... the way you try to rewrite the truth

YOU DID SAY YOU ROWED ALL YOUR METERS OVER 11.5 SPI (or some absurdly high quotient of watts/stroke rate...

What did PaulS say all the time... You're in a hole; stop digging...

The little engine that could.

1.39
1.45
1.48
1.51

7.03

let's see who is right, history is in my favor
This looks about right, Henry.

If he goes out at 1.39 and tries to hold it, he will have to take a break with about 700 meters to go.

He is not capable of rowing faster than 6.40. He can post at a 6.16 pace.

Mike--

I haven't even raced a 2K right through yet.

I am still training.

I have three more races and a couple of weeks of sharpening before them.

Then, I think it will take me another six weeks or so of sharpening and distance trials to bring out my full base.

Racing just reflects training.

When you are fully trained, you end of pulling for 2K what you pull for most of your meters in training.

I am now pulling 12.5 SPI in my sprint work, and some of my distance work, too.

So, when I am fully trained, I think I will pull 12.5 SPI in a 2K, too.

I'm off to Cleveland.

See you folks on Sunday.

I think I have a good chance of besting Rocket Roy's 55s lwt WR tomorrow morning.

We'll soon see.

I think I might row as fast as 6:24 by March 6th in Detroit, although, in my next two weeks of training, I will have to get to 20 x 500m, 1:36 @ 32 spm, 4 x 2K @ 1:40, and 4 x 1K @ 1:36, to do so.

6:24 would be an exciting watershed for me.

It is right around the 50s lwt WR and the 60s hwt WR.

I think I have a good chance of failing again to match Rocket Roy's 55s lwt WR tomorrow morning.

We'll soon see.

I think I might row as fast as 6:50 by March 6th in Detroit, although, in my next two weeks of training, I will have to row do one or two of the workouts I have been promising since before the flood.

Breaking 7 minutes would be an exciting watershed for me.

It is not close to a record, but I'm a twat and not about to come close to any of my predictions.

Hi Ranger
I wish the best for you in Cleveland, would be great to see you break the WR and a sub 6.30. Being a dane I can tell you that Eskild E. is busy doing duathlons (mountainbike/run) besides rowing, taking part in tv dance-shows and earning money being speaker at conferences etc. So maybe he won't be the one to break the 55-59 agegroup WR if You do take it before You turn 60, :) . As Rubashov point out - in Arthur Koestlers 'Darkness at noon' - history is mercyless and possesses no moral values and only it will judge whether you're right or wrong  .

Best of luck,

Claus the Dane, erg-newbie at 46 (bookworm as well)
