Feb 6, 2010: My post-workout weight is now down below 160 lbs. Good news.
Feb 6, 2010: I don't have my HR fully up yet in training, although my training is a lot more advanced that it was last year.
This will change quickly now, though--warp speed--given all of the fast rowing I will be doing.
I will be _a lot_ better over 2K next week than I am this week--and so forth until the first week in March.
I will be sharpening at 34-44 spm every day, heart rates over my anaerobic threshold, pushing to max.
If you start your workout weighing 165 pounds and finish weighing 160 pounds or less you are obviously dehydrated during the latter part of your workout. Once you are dehydrated, it is very easy to get a high heart rate. You have reduced stroke volume and consequently higher heart rate. It does not mean that you are having an intense workout. It merely means you are suffering from cardiac drift.

Cardiovascular drift during prolonged exercise and the effects of dehydration.

Reductions in SV are the most striking component of "classic" CV drift as well as "dehydration induced" CV drift. Direct data for the widespread notion that increased skin blood flow causes SV to be reduced during "classic" CV drift is rather scarce. Reductions in SV due to dehydration and concomitant hyperthermia are clearly not due to increases in skin blood flow. Instead, skin blood flow declines as skin and systemic vascular resistance increase as the CV system attempts to cope with the severe challenge of large reductions in cardiac output. Approximately one-half of the reduction in SV is due to reduced blood volume from dehydration during exercise which produces hyperthermia. The remaining reduction in SV with dehydration and hyperthermia appears to be related to additional factors such as hyperthermia and their interaction with factors that further reduce ventricular filling, such as heart rate acceleration.

Byron--
The high heart rate didn't come at the end of a workout.
It came near the beginning.
I finish my workouts with 2-3 hours of cross-training on my bike.
So the high heart rate came as many as four hours before the end of my workout.

Guys, guys.
I just have a high, youthful maxHR.
What's impossible/wrong about that?
Nothing, certainly.
It is a massive advantage in age-group rowing.
Rocket Roy's max HR is 173 bpm but Mike VB's is only 163 bpm.
Does that mean that Rocket is more dehydrated?
I doubt it.
He just has a higher maxHR.
That's probably why he can beat Mike on the erg even though Mike is much better technically.
Rocket can rev his heart up higher than Mike.
I can rev my heart up higher than either of them--_waaaat_ higher.
That's probably why I can beat both of them on the erg--by a lot.
In fact, when I am fully trained this year, I'll beat them both by a country mile.
30 seconds over 2K
7 seconds per 500m
Close to a mile in a 60min row

On the other hand, sure, it is indeed true that at the ends of long bike rides or stepping routines, when I am dehydrated, my HR tends to rise.
But these cross-training routines are done at UT2.
They are a whole different business entirely.
They aren't things like distance trials or 8 x 500m (3:30 rest), where, at the end of the row, or in later intervals, you might see your maxHR.
No one does distance trials or 8 x 500m when dehydrated.
That's crazy.
You don't row your best when you are dehydrated, and the point of a distance trial or 8 x 500m is to race against the clock at the limits of exertion.
The workouts are maximal.
You try to do your best.

If it were "AT," you could hold it for 5k. You can't do a 5k at a 1.38 pace.
Yes.
My 5K target is 1:39.
My target is to have sex with Penelope Cruz and Selma Hayak on consecutive days.
I am morel likely to hit my target than you are to reach yours.

Just checking the odds here - are you restricting yourself to that specific order, or can Salma be first?

What about both the same day? Or even at the same time? For crying out loud, these things need to be clarified. And screenshots for proof wouldn't be bad if you are able to accomplish your targets. Best of luck!

Remember, these have to be accomplished on an erg, and in order to qualify for world ranking must be independently verified. I'd hate for you to go thru all that and not get credit!

And while you're at it, track both HR and stroke rate.

Come on guys let's stay on topic... Wasn't ranger just replying to the studies of Cadillac Drift
yowser, yowser, yowser!
Kind of a dry subject, I must admit...
Hey...!...?
What about time predictions if our hero makes it to his appointed erg tomorrow..
