What heat?hjs wrote:What I am saying is this, this story is going on from 2004...........nycbone wrote:Not really sure what you're trying to say...
I've been on the forum for two months and I've seen references to previous bets that may or may have not been honored. I don't care about that. The current discussion about gambling on performance/racing is way over the top (e.g., offering to bet quite large sums of money; which third party is going to hold wagered funds) and should take place elsewhere.
It's never been pretty, and it never will be. Take it like is or if you don,t like it, ignore the thread like most.
If you can,t stand the heat stay out of the *** DELETE - SPAM ***, to think that you can alter the way this 7 year old story is going, as a newbe is a bity silly if you ask me, but you can always try, many have tried, all have failled thusfar. I wish you good luck.
I'm not trying to alter any discussion about rowing. I've found this year's discussion (yes, it's obvious this is a long story) to be interesting and informative. I'm primarily concerned that any public, way-over-the-top discussion about betting large sums of money jeopardizes the Concept2 forum itself. If you feel the need to bet, bet a t-shirt or lunch or a beer. Or bet $ privately.

What heat ?
And the talk about betting 100.000 is just as virtual as Ranger's timed pieces, just talk and nothing more
And, who are you to tell what other people should bet on or not ??? Again it's a free world, at least that's what hope it is, you seem to be thinking otherwise.

None of this even matters...he's not going to show up this weekend anyway. Indy was too much of a hassle and distraction, but this weekend is different? Tomorrow or Saturday there will be some bullshit post about why he's not showing up. I'm now on here just to see how Mike does in his races.
He promised chgoss a screenshot today if I'm not mistaken. I'm shocked to see no screenshot today.
On a lighter note I just signed up for my first indoor regatta 2k on Feb 20. Looks like the Iowa State rowing club will be well represented there, it should be fun to have my ass kicked by a bunch of college kids:)

I appreciate the Concept2 forum and don't want to lose it for something like betting on performances/races. Bet however much you want on whatever you want, but please do it elsewhere.

I very much doubt that, it would be a challenge between 2 people, I don,t think that falls under "gambling", but again it's all just virtual, it doesn,t really excist.
It falls under fantasy
Ps Why want's to place a bet that the US dept of J doesn,t do anything hahahahaha
Re: betting discussions
Sort of a moot point, don't you think? No bets have ever taken place on the US Forum
I can think of one (important) party from Michigan who will will never put up any money about what is on the table.... 6:28 by a 59 yr old lwt.
If it's so easy: then why did Paul Seibach a 6:26 (last year) (WR age 50) just race a 6:30+ ? in Alexandria. None of you are talking about his real achievement.
Instead we've got this "busted flush" on our hands...
"Ashes are the evidence of smoke!"
Furthermore: THis thread is not about training... Where's the R. Cureton training? (I'd like quotes in reply, please) Real evidence, not assertions or brow/chest beating or bleating...
It's all speculation here... in its many connotations ... hence the interest (readership/views)
Few people here want the truth,. The truth is more than adequately exemplified by a thread like the "Over 30..." quietly nestled elsewhere on the forum to which (BTW) ranger has nothing compelling to add.
He is "The Mave_RIck" for sure, analogous to a fictive being on the boob tube from yesteryear. His ringing "HI YO SILVER" means ?????
Well???
"ranger"???? What does that mean>? It's the image he wishes to project (a fake)
There is no real number in either "ranger" or his signature... He is not a weighed-in lwt: He's "Weighinable" (future) ...not every waking hour lwt...
"Long term goals"?... WTF is that? No end date.... all impossible at age 59.
Hate to break it to John Rupp and others like him. The calendar on your wall does not read 2003/age 52. 2010/age 59 is the order of business now.
Old folks (here)want to pretend that 7 years are the same no matter what age you are... That's the upshot of what is truly going on here with betting and most everything else. Older guys betting instead of doing.
Understand me:
It is not ludicrous to say that " Now that x has set a WR: Let's see if a 52 year old will improve his time as a 50-54 year old lwt."
But! Let's get back to the real world: AGE marches on.. not just time.
Percentage declines in human performance tell you that 60 year old lwts are several significant % points slower than 50 to 54 lwts...
I would wager that most reading this don't know or care whet the 50-54 lwt WR is. THAT, is, as they say in poker; "a tell"! But at the same time these folks wonder whether ranger will do a 6:28. There's a huge disconnect here.
ranger has as much as said he is not trained NOW (today).. Therefore he has no chance at a WR a week from now and (I guess) a month from now when the erg season ends... so? ... you figure out the conclusion. Put the goal off to next year and then next year and then next year..... ()
Ever notice that only older folks take part in this dream-thread..\
OOPS...
Ask yourself why>>> I do>> it's a little sobering, DYK (Don't Ya Kno')
6:28 Training thread: My Eye! ...for 60 year-old lwts (fantasy)
(sputter stagger snort)
"ashes to ashes, dust to dust"

I did 20 x 500 at 1:36 (10 SPI) in the fall of 2003 but only by cheating heavily on rate, pumping my spms to 40.

I would make a bet with you on that, but I am not a sport (i.e. betting man). In my opinion the Brits succeeded. Admittedly, they used a drastic procedure - the ban - but it worked. Well - O.K. - it still does pop up once in a great while, like in the "classic quote" thread and in an occasion slip in the moderation procedure.

We can say what we want, but we have to give the man credit for his endurance, he is by far the most posting man on forums.
Ps Good luck In Boston ! Your a good example how one can get older and still compete Gracefully! Someone can learn a lot from that.

Thank you for posting this. I agree.nycbone wrote:Any chance you guys could move any discussion of betting/gambling to a private forum? I think this violates the spirit of the Concept2 forum. At the very least, it's distasteful.
Thanks.

It's difficult to know which state's laws would apply. Concept2 are in Morrisville, VT, but the server is located in Brea, CA. Or would this be a case where Federal laws apply.nycbone wrote:DUThomas wrote:Psst, wanna lay odds on what the C2 moderators will do?
I'm sure they won't even check...
If you have a problem I suspect you need to discuss this with Dena or David at Concept2. I don't think the moderators/SPAM team are qualified to comment.
IMHO there is no gambling on here only the flaky discussion of a possible chance of a side bet on some rowing competitions.
The clear thing is that a) Ranger won't break 6:40 it's doubtful he'll even get that, b) Mike van B won't get a payment and c) Henry and Rocket still won't get their payments from the welcher.
