6:28 2K
After a month of hard sharpening, if I can rate 36 spm in a 2K, as I used to, and as I think I still can, at 59 years old, given my improved technique and stroking power, I will now break Caviston's 40s lwt WR and outrow Eskild E. by three seconds.
Cool!
Caviston can no longer do anything close to the 6:18 he pulled 8 years ago.
Eskild is 37 years old.
Caviston is now 48.

My heart rate is already getting nicely up to speed, and there is still a month of sharpening left before the end of the indoor racing season.
My heart rate was riding in the high 160s for most of my session this morning, with some 170s, here and there.
I will need to see 180 bpm tomorrow.
I will need to see my maxHR, whatever that might be (190 bpm?) before Sunday, when I race in Cincinnati.
Before Sunday, I will also want to do 8 x 500m (3:30 rest), 1:34 @ 36 spm (11.7 SPI).
I'll post the screen shot here on the forum.
That will predict a 6:28 2K for Sunday.
If I do 8 x 500m (3:30 rest), 1:34 @ 36 spm, before Sunday, I'll go out 1:37 @ 32 spm in Cincinnati and just try to hold that pace steady to the end.
I won't try much of a sprint start and don't anticipate any kick at the end.
I suspect I will just hang on for dear life.
The sprint start and final kick will only come with more sharpening.
My goal over the month of sharpening to come is to get my 500s down to 1:31s.

I get a couple of seconds a week over 2K from hard sharpening.
So if I pull 6:28 in Cincinnati on Sunday, I would expect 6:26 in Boston on Valentine's Day.
If I do that in the 55s lwt race, it would break Dennis Hastings' 55s lwt championship record of 6:40.8 by almost 15 seconds, even though I am 59 years old.
It would also lower the 55s lwt WR two more seconds to a dozen seconds below Roy Brook's present 55s lwt WR of 6:38.
Of course, if I row 6:28 at Cincinnati, I will row in Boston as the 55s lwt WR-holder.
6:28 is ten seconds faster than Roy Brook's present 55s lwt WR of 6:38.

If I row 6:26 in Boston, it will put the 55s lwt WIRC championship record below the 50s lwt WIRC championship record, even though I am 59.
The exciting moment for me, though, will be the next weekend in Cleveland.
If I gain another two seconds over 2K, I might expect to pull 6:24 or thereabouts in Cleveland and therefore will be in a position to beat the 50s lwt WR and the 60s hwt WR--simultaneously.
Breaking the 50s lwt WR is what motivated me in the first place to try to improve my technique and stroking power.
It would also be cool to unify the two WRs, lwt and hwt, when I turn 60 next year and hold both of them simultaneously.
As it stands now, if everyone is declining at about a second a year over 2K, the best 55s hwts right now are going to struggle with Hendershott's 6:23.8 when they are 60.
Cashin's 55s hwt WR, pulled when he was just 55, is 6:18.
So, if I go on to row 6:22 in Chicago at the end of February and 6:20 in Detroit, in the first week in March, I might lay down a pretty demanding stardard for 2K when I turn 60 next year, even for the heavyweights.

Questions:
- To Mike. Can you handle the dough for all of us?
- To Ranger. Do you accept the status of eponym?
Please let us know.
As for ranger's counter bets.... I'd like to stick to my bet against a 6:28 by him as a lightweight with a time limit and payment by May 1 , 2010.
All this "if I this... then that" confuses the issue of this thread. This issue remains: Will ranger produce a 2k lwt erg score of 6:28... not what I can or plan to do at Boston if ranger shows.
I cannot tell you, though, what a pleasure it is to have the prospect of sculling with Rich this summer in a Masters Nationals 2x. Perhaps we can get in a practice session or two before hand. I wonder if he'd also enter the E Hwt 1x...
It would be a great experience for you with that other Boston event on your horizon.... the HOCR...
Will you pay the entry fee for us in Camden? I will reimburse you for my half once we've done rowing. I'll provide the 2x for our use (gratis). Will you bring your own oars?
Nationals is a four day series of events. There are many chances to test ones skills...

Any chance you guys could move any discussion of betting/gambling to a private forum? I think this violates the spirit of the Concept2 forum. At the very least, it's distasteful.
Thanks.
Thanks.

It's a free world, I can think of a few other things in this thread that could be called distasteful ...............nycbone wrote:Any chance you guys could move any discussion of betting/gambling to a private forum? This is not a free world. It's a forum owned (not sure if it's moderated) by Concept2. Not only does betting on rowing/erging races violate the spirit of this forum and amateur rowing/erging, any discussion of such may have legal consequences for the owner of this forum.hjs wrote:It's a free world, I can think of a few other things in this thread that could be called distasteful ...............nycbone wrote:Any chance you guys could move any discussion of betting/gambling to a private forum? If you really think that go complaining at C2, and yes it is moderated.nycbone wrote:This is not a free world. It's a forum owned (not sure if it's moderated) by Concept2. Bye the way, can you tell me what the "spirit" is of this forum?
That would seem intuitively obvious, but...hjs wrote:[

Yes, to learn as much as possible from the rowing/erging experience and wisdom of others. These can be positive or negative experiences and the wisdom may include reponses to claims by others (as in the case of this thread). This thread has been helpful, particularly due to the responses by NavHaz, MikVan and a few others. The careful reader (in conjunction with other reliable sources of information) should be able to distinguish between what is useful and what is not. As a novice, I've learned quite a bit from this forum and, as a result, my technique and performance have improved significantly over the past few months. The discussion about betting/gambling on performance or racing is indeed inappropriate and I have asked Concept2 to have a look.

So you have been able to get the good bit between all the rubbish and now when there is talk about betting, btw this started al least 3 years ago, you are having trouble just ignoring these bits ? strangenycbone wrote:That would seem intuitively obvious, but...hjs wrote:[

I've been on the forum for two months and I've seen references to previous bets that may or may have not been honored. I don't care about that. The current discussion about gambling on performance/racing is way over the top (e.g., offering to bet quite large sums of money; which third party is going to hold wagered funds) and should take place elsewhere.

It's never been pretty, and it never will be. Take it like is or if you don,t like it, ignore the thread like most.
If you can,t stand the heat stay out of the *** DELETE - SPAM ***, to think that you can alter the way this 7 year old story is going, as a newbe is a bity silly if you ask me, but you can always try, many have tried, all have failled thusfar. I wish you good luck.
