I've noticed that when I turn my "rowing" computer on, the PM3 comes on automatically, even if RowPro isn't open. And the PM3 stays on until I disconnect the USB cable or turn off the computer.

I'm not keen on plugging and unplugging the PM3 constantly, so I'm wondering how this will affect its battery life. Does just sitting there "on" drain the batteries significantly? And does the USB supply any power to the unit? I know USB connections can provide small amounts of power for some devices.

Thanks!

This question came up last year. My understanding from C2 is that the PM3 is powered by the USB port when the computer is on, so you are not using the batteries then. My PM3 stayed on even when my computer was sleeping, but I found that "hybernating" the computer did power down the USB port (there may be a setting in XP for this that I had to select).

I haven't changed batteries in about 2 years with the PM3 (running on a C, so I don't get power from the erg), but have been using rowpro exclusively for the last year, so I am getting power from USB almost all the time.

My rowing computer is almost always on, and therefore so is my PM3, with no appreciable battery drain. If you've always got it hooked up to the computer, you don't need the batteries at all!

Bill
Here is a question - I will search for RowPro in the Forums - but is there any other software with the PM3 that will store the data and show it. In short is there any other proggy that can be used.

Chris

I've wired up a 5v mains adapter to a usb cable, so I can just power it off the mains.
