So, is he racing in Indianapolis today or not?
Now listen to me, all of you. You are all condemned men. We keep you alive to serve this ship. So row well, and live.

My distance rowing has come together.

I am now just rowing along, way under my anaerobic threshold, effortlessly, 1:40 @ 30 (10MPS, 11.7 SPI).

I am going to row over 18K for an hour.

I now row like Eskild.

In fact, I might be faster.

I might row under 6:00 for 2K.

I am trying to remain calm, but sheeesh, this is tooooooo much.

My distance rowing is 8 (!!!!) seconds per 500m better than it was in 2002-2003.

Technique makes a difference?

Does it ever.

I am now rowing with my legs, as I should (but without diminishing the pull with my back and arms).

I used to just row with my back and arms.

Does this mean that I am going to row 5K @ 1:35?

What _is_ that?

15:50?

Damn.

That's faster than Nik Fleming.

This is the 1/2 of him that knows (at least at some level) that he's lying.

Compulsively avoiding any reliable quantification of your current abilities in favor of completely baseless extrapolations is not mentally healthy rich...

No, making weight would leave him unable to break 7:00 (especially when the pacing strategy is 1:36 for 1k, blow, 200m at 2:00, 200m at 1:40, 200m at 2:05, you get the picture..)

Here's a true challenge for you -

Make a full post without using the words "if", "might", "would be", and any other future-tense verbs.

Looking forward to seeing how everybody else does today, hopefully some big PB's!
That's refreshing. Thanks!

Still I wonder if that's the pervasive sentiment...

So: We might ask ourselves: "Why this phenomenon?"

My conclusion from reading this stuff for three years is that there's more than just "seeing if someone can do the impossible" going on here.

It's certainly not about "Training" ... there's no data....
I DON'T KNOW. Could it be a cyber-space phenomenon?.. I see similar things in YouTube comments.... no substance, all posturing...???

Look: I'm guilty of it too...

Does it end up being a competition for creating the topic that gets the most hits? Perhaps we should concede the title to R. Cureton of Michigan and move on to T>R>A>I>N>I>N>G.

Any one ever notice the relatively new presence of [Bot]s in this forum ?
They're programs that monitor threads like this one... Google [Bot], Yahoo[Bot] are examples you will see from time to time under "whose online" at the bottom of the screen.

A reply like the one above suggests that ranger, sometime in the not so distant past, transmogrified himself into ranger[Bot] (r[Bot] for short)

Notice that r[Bot] is unable to reply to the sense of a comment: a dead give away as to the weakness of its programming.

There are other indications. Notice: r[Bot] refers to the erg as the "truth machine". Hmm, doesn't that also smack of a form of primitive but demented AI logic?

BTW, in training, I was doing these 6 x 2K workouts in 2006, when I pulled 6:29 at Baltimore, the week before WIRC 2006.

I am quite a bit better than that now.

Today, in addition to my rowing, 3 hours on my bike.

In the long run, much better training than 10 hours in the car, driving to and from Indianapolis.

Five hour there.

Staying overnight.

Waiting around.

Rowing 2K.

Five hours driving home.

etc.

translation - 'etc' = "oh, and I was going to get my ass kicked by 60-70 lightweight women. And prove once and for all what a poseur I am.

Instead, I'll return once again to the subterranean RangerWorld, where I am excellent in all things, the best that ever was, a legend in my own mind, just me, my ego, and a full length mirror.

So much better than confronting the reality of adequate-but-not-world-class performance that would be absolutely fine if I hadn't shot my mouth off for years."

Beautifully smooth, relaxed, maximally efficient stroke now, 1:37 @ 31 spm (12.4 SPI, 10 MPS).

I am more than a little shocked to discover this, but this seems to be AT.

That is, I am a whole training band better than I was in 2002-2003.

This four seconds per 500m was what I guessed would be the payoff from learning to row well, but I didn't think I would carry that gain right into racing.

I thought the gain would compress as I raised the rate.

Seems not.

All I have to do now is some AT work 1:37 @ 31 spm until I can pull a comfortable, repeatable 2Ks at this pace and rate and the game is won.

Some fast rowing for three weeks or so after that and I'll pull 6:16 by pushing my HR to max from AT.

I am at weight, rowing right at my targets, now at 31 spm.

Goal for sharpening?

Hold my technique steady and slowly raise the rate to 35 spm.

1:37 is AT for a 6:12 2K.

4 x 2K @ 1:37 predicts a 6:12 2K, too.

What's the name of this thread?

6:28 2K.

This is an mportant watershed for me in my training on the way to 6:16.

It's AT.

Five weeks to go in the indoor racing season, plenty of time to get _very_ sharp.

My last regatta, at Detroit, is March 7th.
