ranger wrote: Races are just a distraction--travel, waiting around, spending money, making weight, etc.

I have done this for several years, racing more than anyone, and as everyone has witnessed, it hasn't been that productive.

WIRC is too early this year, too.

I don't even have any interest in it anymore.

I am happy to let Mike win the 55s lwt hammer pulling 6:47.

I need to keep my nose to the grindstone and train.

I won't be on the forum here, either.

I just need to do this myself--and shut out the noise and distractions.

Over the last few years, I have done a lot of bad races unprepared, just to participate.

Is this the day?

Paging Dr Freud! After the Baron`s meltdown the other day i knew it was going to go tits up.I used to box as an amatuer and saw this so many times in the changing rooms. Trying to gee yourself up,disparaging your oponent before you actually go face to face. They lost nearly every time. The fact that all that postulating shite came from a near 60 yr old english professor is hilarious but at the same time so very tragic

I'll also try to post a shot of

(2) a warm up 10K, say, 1: 50 @ 24 spm, showing my HR.
I know I swore off the thread but this is just to much :D

Rich: You are going to post a pic showing
- 500m in 1min 27.5 seconds
- 10,000m in 36min 40sec (1.50 average pace)

is that what you are saying? Yes/No? I dont need any lecture about how easy it is, or how you did so an so back in whenever..

just yes or no.

Waste of effin space as we say in the UK.
As was said, the 500 trial went pearshaped and the prof realised he would be found out!
Put up or crawl away Rich, why not try the OTW forums, reckon they would be much harder on you.

Question: I don't spend enough time here to care much, but why is ranger even allowed on this board? This isn't just about differing opinions, it's about a clearly deranged individual polluting a forum. I'm not convinced that the entertainment value outweighs the embarrassment that such a thread represents. I mean, almost 180 pages?

I've been guilty myself of contributing to this nonsense, but why not just put an end to it, once and for all? What are forum regulars and administrators gaining here?

Just an outsider's point of view.

I'm with you macroth, although I was kind of hoping all along that he would do it. If he failed, everybody would just say 'I told you so' and it would be done. If he went out and pulled some sick times, it would have made for some great forum material.

At this point it's clear that a few of the regulars here knew exactly what was going on. Ranger is a good 59 yo erger, and an unstable personality. Nothing more, nothing less. I feel swindled by being sucked in for so long, waiting for the tomorrow that will never come. He can claim to pull 5:50 for all I care, I'm done with him and any thread he's a part of.

Rich, at the very least you owe Mike an opportunity to try and kick your ass in a race. After all the smug, condescending bullshit you threw his way it's unbelievably cowardly what you're doing.

you are clearly a newby....... those come around every year, that's the problem. If there where no newbies around ranger would not get any attention, but he tricks the newcomers in responding so the rest can't help themselves.

5 years I also was a newby here.... Although he did make some more sense, but now 7 years after his prime he knows very well himself he will never pb again, let alone his bizar goals.

You also need to know his background and then you will now where his 6.16 comes from.

Ranger was never going to row at the crash-bs this year or any future year. Let's get real. The UK forum threads have been deleted, but from vague memory, I think we were first promised a picture of a timed piece in something like Sept 2005, so this has been going on for close to five years and five seasons with nothing to show.

Unfortunately, this is not the end. 2-3 days from now, Ranger will slink back and start posting again, as if nothing was said and nothing happened. People will get drawn back in, and this will continue on endlessly. Sometime in May or June, after wasting this season (at this point there is little or no evidence he actually rows or trains anymore), he will start making promises about next season. During that time, say May -Dec of next year, he will claim that he has not sharpened or done timed rows since 2004 or so, basically admitting that he was lying this fall about his training (again, since that will be the 6th year in row).

Lying or leg-pulling? The difference is in the intent. To me it looks like he has done an impressive job of putting one over on so many people for so long a time.

Yeah, but you would have to be: a) mad to waste so much time doing it; and b) desperate for entertainment to post during the hours that ranger does/did
