I see that you are listed as from Zurich. Do you row OTW there in the warmer months? When I visited there many years ago, I was impressed by the number and quality of the rowing club houses along the Lake, including "The Grasshopper," which is where Xeno is reported to have made his start.

Unfortunately, I did not have the occasion to do that yet... I'm all new to the forums, but also pretty new to the sport. The first opportunity to start OTW would have been last spring, but I was abroad then and most of the summer, thus I missed the season.
But I'm determined to do a beginner's course this season. I don't know yet with which club though. There are a few to choose from, as you know. I guess it will probably depend on when and how the courses are and who grants the best discount for students ;)
Looking forward to but the effort into the water finally!

My first 5000m in under 20 min (1:59.8). That's a major milestone for me.

Congratulations -- I can still remember trying to break 20 in the 5k-- here is a quote taken from my Rowing at 60 web page.

"My first goal was to try to row the 5000 meters in less than 20 minutes. I started off doing 21’s for the 5k and then slowly crept closer and closer to 20 minutes. I remember one day I rowed 20.00.1 and thought how close I had come but had just missed my goal. My next attempt at the 5K personal best turned up a 20:22 and up and down it went to eventually one day I finally hit 19:58. "
I am now trying to get down to 19 which is taking a lot longer :D

12K continuous row. 10K at 2:03.x, 21 spm. 2k in 6:51.6, 31 spm. Personal best 2k by about 17 seconds.

Didn't plan on trying for PB...with about 3k left I just did a few hard strokes and it felt really good so I decided to hit it with 2k left. Very hard..fell off erg at the end with feet still attached

Hell of a good effort! And I've definitely had gym employees rush over to me after collapsing in pain off the erg. Congratulations!

That is a fantastic effort, congrats!

Great job Brian! My own JVTC contributions were a bit low for the last few days when I was fiddling around with a couple of sprint time trials (500m and 1K) and a 2K race. I had intended to do a 5K TT (for the nonathlon, as well as the JVTC) early Sunday afternoon to take advantage of my limited time at sea level, but, in the interest of domestic tranquillity, I agreed to go to lunch with my wife after the 2K instead.

Thanks bama! That's quite an improvement on your 2k in 4 months.

NavigationHazard - I see a vacant spot in your PB table for a FM :)
