News flash...picture to come later.

I won the gold medal and beat my previous PB by 13 seconds. I came in at 7:51 (.2 I think but can't remember). Racing is like childbirth, once it's over you forget how you felt during it. It was awesome rowing next to Mary Perrot and watching Joan and John Van Blom compete. A competitor in the over 85 event set a new world record.

Best of all I got to meet Mike in real time!

It was fun meeting Gina and her support crew (husband and daughter). Her time was officially 7:51.1! What an incredible effort. I can't decide what was more impressive, the final time, or how effortless she made it look. So much power generated with such a smooth effort, and still a kick left at the end. No "fly and die" - her form and pace held all the way. On a side note, at 6' tall, I have never felt as short as I did today in a boathouse full of rowers.

Great job, Gina!

yep, I'm happy! I just realized that no only did I win my event. I beat all the others in my heat except Mary Perrot (lightweight world champion). I beat all the women aged 40-55. :D  :D

You've just accomplished something no other Luna-Tic has done - well, actually two things! First entering the competition and taking GOLD....somewhere in there was a personal best....and second, you also managed to meet another Luna-Tic! I'd say you've had quite a memorable day!

CONGRATULATIONS...and wishing you many, many more memorable days!

The metal bracket and hole with wires on the wall behind Gina in the photo above usually holds a big screen/flat screen television. It was remounted on another wall, over the competitors and facing the gallery. It displayed tiny boats in lanes so each racers progress, splits, and distance behind the leader could be monitored by the audience during the race. The monitor showed Gina virtually even with Mary Perrot through 1500+ meters. During the race that was causing a buzz among a few people next to me as they were wondering who Gina was! Very exciting.

I tried to link photos on another site, I guess I need to upload to facebook as that link worked. I don't have a photobucket account.

YIPPIE! I had good vibes that you were going to win, but didn't want to say it for fear of jinxing you! Awesome job.

Congratulations on your victory!
