seat pads

My seat pad comes naturally. The trick is getting it into the rowing shorts.

You just made me laugh, Jane!

I have to brag on Ben today. I just posted his workout. He did an hour, and had a decent rate, too. Doubling his daily time goal was his own idea. He wanted to earn more video game time. At our house it is a minute-for-minute exchange rate, rowing for gaming time.

Image Hooyah! Virtual Challenge Team Luna-Tics Rock n Row!
FIVE days left to sign on with the moon team! It's an out of this world experience!!

Luna-Tic Challenge Team Meters as of 9 out of 31 = 4,576,395 m

Total meters on the day = 906,162 m

Crew on the roster = 103

Wowzer, mates! When checked last evening, the team meters were at just a bit over FOUR million...the team had grown to 101....and whoops of Hooyah! were heard throughout the household. Now the crew roster is at 103 and the total meters in the team piggy bank are close to 4.6 MM. Magnificent!! And welcome to new and returning challenge team members!!

Would also like to highlight success for Timbuk2 as they scratch, claw and row back not only into the top 10, but into the number 9 spot! Good rowing and lots of true grit.

As Moose pointed out yesterday in his timely "let's go team!" challenge, unexpected things frequently occur during these challenges - and many of them are positives. As much as I love to calculate the numbers, the unpredictable impact of team pride and team spirit will carry the day! Go Luna-Tics!

AWOL

Post by Dave_H » January 10th, 2010, 9:04 pm

Hi all, just a note to say hi and keep up the great erging!
I have been having problems with my shoulder (rotator-cuff issues), and trying to balance the doctor's demands (no rowing!) and my need to compete/ contribute/ participate in the JVT has been a battle. The trouble is it doesn't hurt while erging, just later that night trying to sleep!
K2 - you were correct with my "almost" HM a few days ago. It was an attempted Full M that got aborted at the mid point, however it is very difficult to stop the PM3 on the exact number!

Cheers,
Dave

I suspect that no rowing probably doesn't mean try for a full marathon....we can WAIT for you to get healthy, Dave. There is a whole team of rowers here to help propel this Luna-Tic ship to the moon! Take care of you !

Number 100

Post by Kona2 » January 11th, 2010, 12:49 am

Wowzer, mates! I've been wondering when the 100th crew member would hop aboard....and here he is today. Welcome Greg H to the fine crew of the Luna-Tics! Since you are a stargazer, well it's only fitting that you are also on a journey to the moon. It's often difficult for us to find our way through the star trails!

And that telescope you're pictured with.....I am envious.

Welcome to all new team members! It's great to have you all on the team to speed up the ship towards the moon.
Congratulations for all great milestones!

I've been slacking lately due to challenging schedules, but just posted for 3 days and passed the 3M lifetime in the process :) .
This is a small number compared to 7M, 6M, 5M, 4M, etc per season for some of our colleagues, so I will try to pick up the pace ;) !

As Jan mentioned, my last big chunk of rowing was on the sea, on the board of Dawn Princess on the Melbourne - New Zealand - Melbourne route.
It was great to discover a brand new model D in the gym that allowed me to meet the 200k Holiday Challenge and reduce the additional pounds resulting from cruise dining ;).
I have to say that rowing on a ship can be challenging at times, especially on a rough sea - much better on a steady erg in front of the TV :D.

Happy rowing!

Andrea

Dan - Congratulatins on achieving 4 Million Meters for this Season!

Jane - Thanks for the chuckle from your last post!

MT - I hope your wrist pain is easing. I sometimes wonder if the stock handle bar on the Model D and E is all that ergonomic. Put your elbows to the side, forearms extended straight ahead, palms down (like you are going to grab the bar and row), and fist position so all fingers are in line and would be pulling straight back. Note the distance between the right and left hand. If this distance falls outside of horizontal zone the handle bar has for pulling, your wrists are canted to one side or the other when exterting stress on them. And especially for a women's hand, I think the diameter of the pulling bar has too big of a diameter, which would also change wrist alignment. Judging from my experience with canoe paddles, a woman with a medium size hand will feel most comfortable with a paddle grip of no more than 1 1/8" diameter. Just my $.02.

Dave - Rotator trouble is not fun. Been there, but knock on wood, I haven't had trouble for about 2.5 years - coincidental with retirement. I really think my problem was long hours driving (4 to 8 hours in a day), several times a week. I had the habit of putting my elbow high on the window ledge and then doing fine precision movement with that same arm for hours and that was the rotator that gave me trouble for about a decade. And when I wasn't driving, my desk job didn't get me the right types of exercise to strengthen and remedy it. I'm no expert but do a self evaluate any activity where your elbows are at the same height or higher than your shoulder, and see if you can make adjustments in that activity to keep the elbows low. If you are going to row, I'd suggest keep elbows and the damper setting low. I also am a believer in glucoseamine

Luna-Tics Virtual Challenge Team Progress: Thru Day 10

Post by Kona2 » January 11th, 2010, 11:10 am

Image Image Million Meters!

Go a little crazy! You have four days to complete your transformation into a rowing Luna-Tic (not to be confused with rowing fools), and join the team going to the moon!

Like the space races, competition can be very close. Who knows what other teams are cooking up in their secret mountain laboratories! There's a little bit of strategy, a little bit of luck, and a whole lot of rowing and team spirit that makes the January Virtual Team Challenge a fun event. Keep rowing - history suggests we need a bit more cushion (and we're not talking about seat pads - natural or otherwise ! :D ) than one might think!

Keep your eyes to the sky, elbows and damper settings low, and the team daily meter average above the line! Hooyah, Luna-Tics!

Image Dreaming of a 100 Million Meter Team Season...Image And here we are at 81.5 Million Meters!

There's always a story behind the numbers we post - and sharing that story is a good part of what we do here. It's very fun to have crew members that use number "games" to motivate themselves...and sometimes to see if I can catch on to what they're doing! Tony's 3333 postings come to mind!

Today's number surprise is provided by Ben, who was a rock star in yesterday's posting. Being a rock star must appeal to him (or that video game minute thing is a great motivator!), because he posted a whopping 17,429 m today. That's a lot of any rower - and it's a bigger lot for a junior rower. Congratulations on some mega-meters, Ben - we wish you many more!

Season meters as of 255/365 = 81,536,716 m

Total meters on the day = 699,587 m

Oars in space (participation) = 30 percent
