It's on! What charity are you doing it for? Maybe we can set up some sort of broadcast... Will you be doing like 20k on, then rest or something? I had it planned out to do 110' then rest for 10'.energi wrote:OMG Paul - that would be fabulous!! My big day is June 19 - it's a Saturday and I'm doing it at a giant mall (I'm raising money to build a school in Mozambique - all by my lonesome on a stage in front of strangers). To know you are doing a 24hr record attempt at the same time will spur me on to keep going!bloomp wrote: Energi, when were you planning on doing your 100k? I had a 24 hour record attempted planned for November but I got really sick - so as long as you'll be doing your 100k before June 27th, I'll do my 24hr piece at the same time - some cross-continent moral support?

I really appreciate the support!

Awesome! I'm doing it through Plan Canada (used to be called Foster Parents Plan) - I will raise $40 000 for them and then they work with a community in Mozambique to build a primary school. I've got a website called http://www.igo100.ca where I blog and post updates on my progress...and collect donations to sponsor me.bloomp wrote:

If you're at all interested, let me know if you'd like to "team up" for the fundraiser. I'm not getting any tangible benefits from doing this - just a sense of doing something good for people who need a bit of help. Email me at mjtoy at hotmail.com if you want to know more.
I haven't decided on how to split it up for rest breaks - I was thinking every 20-25km for a stretch.
I have a question - how do you hydrate on your long rows? I thought of using a camelbak but am concerned about chafing.
Thanks!

You might want to talk to Jen Howse on the UK forum - she did her second 100K last week. http://concept2.co.uk/forum/blog.php?u=9166&b=69743energi wrote:I have a question - how do you hydrate on your long rows? I thought of using a camelbak but am concerned about chafing.
Remember that the monitor won't shut down for four minutes, so stopping to drink isn't a big problem. Some folk swear by a camelbak on a chair as their preferred way. Others keep rowing one handed and drink on the move.
The only 100K I've done was with two other folk on one machine. We rowed 19mins30 every hour for 24hrs and got to 300,000m with time to spare. I'll have a go at a straight through 100K at some point.
longest distance in single row so far (started erging last Oct 1):
17500m @ 2:11.8
I've been adding 1000 to 1500m with each steady distance day of the Pete Plan, so I should complete my first 1/2 marathon in the next week or so.

Now listen to me, all of you. You are all condemned men. We keep you alive to serve this ship. So row well, and live.
Thanks for the info Citroen - I'll pop over to the UK forum and look her up. I did a search on there last night and saw some interesting and helpful info on hydration - there seems to be a lot more long distance erg activity happening in Europe than in North America. Of course, I live in the prairies of Canada where there isn't much water, so I'm a bit of an oddity where I live.
Hey nycbone - well done on your distance! You just started in October too? That's great progress!

Thanks! Things have been starting to gel in terms of my technique, endurance etc. over the past few weeks. Sticking to a plan and recording/analyzing portions of my workout has helped a lot. I'm taking proper sculling lessons next June, so I want to be in the best possible shape by then.energi wrote:Hey nycbone - well done on your distance! You just started in October too? I started erging in early October and this is my first post. I have been a little intimidated by the times that others post. I have a serious case of chicken legs and I wonder whether I can ever achieve those times myself.
But I have seen some good improvement, so I feel that I should brag a little. Today I achieved PBs of 1:47.2 for 500m and 3:54.3 for 1000m (6.7s and 19s less than my previous PBs in late October).
Every time that I try for a PB, I achieve it. But I am only rowing hard on rankable pieces once a week while trying to follow the Pete Plan.

Try to not let other people's times intimidate you Greg - a lot of the people here have been rowing for years, both on and off the water. I'll never reach those levels, so I compete against myself and seeing improvements makes me feel great.gpeace wrote:I started erging in early October and this is my first post. You should brag too - those are great times.

I'm on my second full cycle through the Pete plan:
Yesterday: 8 x 500m; 150.8/500m; 25spm (3600 rest meters; 2000m warmup; 1000m cool down)
Today: 1st 1/2 marathon; 212.0/500m; 19spm
Making progress...

Well, I'm all new to the forum, just registered today and didn't know where to post first. I guess the bragging thread is a good place to start
Registered on the Logbook September last year after having started with Indoor Rowing a year earlier. Been abroad in Summer and since I'm back I'm doing more intense training and I'm looking to compete the Swiss Rowing Indoors end of January.
Thus I've achieved a lot of improvement over the last couple of months. So I'll just pick two of my favorites...
Bringing down 6k below 1:50, which was before Christmas, where I did the
6k @ 1.49.7
And just yesterday I breached the 1:40 for 1k doing the
1k @ 1:39.2
I guess you'll hear back from me after the competition with my new 2k PB

Re: 6k
I see that you are listed as from Zurich. Do you row OTW there in the warmer months? When I visited there many years ago, I was impressed by the number and quality of the rowing club houses along the Lake, including "The Grasshopper," which is where Xeno is reported to have made his start.Uyam Zenra wrote:Well, I'm all new to the forum, just registered today and didn't know where to post first.
