Sorry to hear that Paul the team relay race was very electrifying a lost of noise and encouragement. Here we had 20 rowers on 5 differents team relays in a room of 13ftx18ft. Yes we had to move the erg indoor due to the incliment wheather.

The regatta was a complete success here in Toronto we had 37 rowers. The only difficulty was the first few race I had to do them offline due to no availibility of a second computer online regiter for those race. Like I said before the relay race was a blast it is to bad we had not enough interest from the online rowers.

Thanks again for everyone who participated.

Alain
Jetstart

Alain, when I was at the start line for the relay, there were six or seven boats. Andy, myself, and four or five from Toronto. I didn't know how you guys were going to make it work, but started when the screen said "row".

After nothing started, I logged off. I only saw two computers in the chat screen, Andy and yours, both with the blue rowing in progress icon. I thought that I might have logged into the wrong heat, but it counted down and started. I was able to log back in later to the race in progress, but it wouldn't let me row. I hadn't seen this before. Usually, I would get a message "too late to enter, race is already started".

Was Team Brasil able to hold off Team Toronto?

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Thanks for putting that together Captain It was strange to see so many boats on the blue screen in one race, but all woked great.

Was also great to see Mr Flack back on e-row (even though he beat me :angry face:)

Little disapointed with Thomas, I had you down as sub 3 and the same with Japp GET TRAINING!!

I enjoyed the evening race, thanks again to Captian and all those that took part.

Sir Pirate

The 1k and marathon were the only distances I hadn't done for 2005 season. The 1k went even faster than the one in 2004, so a 40+ PB for me . This is really because of the competition element. If rowing a 1k alone I would have been in discussion with myself all the time to stop or not. Now there were all the boats around me which drove me to the PB.
Thanks again to you and all the other participants.

Jaap

Thanks Captain for organizing the race. I had been looking forward to it from the moment I read about here on the e-row forum.

I almost did not do it. I was extremely worn down from non-rowing and non-weight training activities over the past three days, in particular Thursday and Friday. The 1000-meters was very difficult. To get myself going, I told myself that the intensity in the first 500 meters would be less than the intensity applied during a 500-meter Time Trial. Toward the end, I saw JaapR was getting on it with 1:28's. He actaully gained ground on me. I responded in kind and was able to hold him off and nudge ahead of him by six-tenths of a second, . . . quite exciting. Very happy to see so many rowers racing at the same time. A little surprised no one was under 3:00, but it appears everyone is doing sessions other than the shorter stuff. Sub-2:59.9 was my original aim as of last week but asking to much in light of last few days. Still, a good result for me.

Nice photos Captain! You managed to pack them in!

You probably just held the largest on-line women's race. Congratulations!

Thomas, I wasn't a bit surprised that nobody rowed under 3 minutes. Not that many of us have ever rowed that fast. Even on slides, I have never turned in a time that fast. So I wasn't having any great expectations to row at any speed after weeks of marathon training.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Looking at the names of participants, I thought JaapR probably would based on his 2k time and other times. I thought Sir Pirate may be able to dig it out since he is part of the MAD Team where they are rowing sub-1:20's at a turn. You, I am not sure. I looked at the past rankings that are available and you don't appear to have posted a time faster that 3:00, not that you couldn't. Additionally, everyone seems to be doing longer stuff now, taking a break, or doing something other than rowing.

For me, I thought I would due to the rowing and weight training I have been doing since the beginning of February, but under the circumstances it was not possible for me. I actually thought that 3:10 might be a good goal for the race but reminded myself of the 500-meter time trial which convinced me to try for 1:30. I was pegged at 1:31; my body did not want to go faster. 3:02.6 is still good; I am not to far off my recent personal best.

Looking at the rankings, there are less that 10 rowers in the Men's Heavyweight 40-49 category who have posted 1000 meter times under 3:00, and it appears that what for all the previous ranking years. There are probably a number more that could post sub-3:00 times based on the 2000-meter rankings but apparently they choose not to do so. I think it looks cool when a person can row sub-3:00 because of the appearance of 2:XX.X instead of 3:XX.X; this being the reason why I bringing it up here.

Thomas,

Yes, we are now both in the 40 - 49 age group. I will do what I can for the "49" part and you try to keep up as a representative for the "40s" members. I hope your lack of experience doesn't hurt you too much when we compete in 10Ks and marathons.

When are you going to go RowPro? Andreas shows up regularly for workouts to push me along. You would be about the right speed to join us.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

I bought rowpro I think around November of last year. I am still finding the regular erow the system to use. My schedule is hectic right now so, I row when I can, sometimes at a gym following weights. Preferably, I would like to row in the morning and lift at night.

Once or twice I joined Nigels sessions at e-row just after a 60k biking at about 38km/h average, but most of the time I'm back home too late.
Apart from Nigel sessions at tue/thur there are not much races at e-row. Tonight I rowed a 10k at the digitalrowing server. No problems with stability anymore. Everything went smooth, even the chatting.
Thomas, Paul, your mornings are evening over here. I can row almost every friday, sometimes at wednesday too. Earliest at 17:00 GMT, latest at 19:00 GMT.

Jaap
