For a quick demonstration that you have the kind of exceptional full-body power that is important in rowing, I like extension press ups.

I do not think it is an indication of full body power but rather an indication of core strength

added later: If you watch carefully, you can see some cheating. If you keep your elbows down and first raise your body, then once your body is raised straighten your arms, it becomes easier.

Not sure if he was cheating with his elbows - it was too difficult to tell, what with all the cheating by not lowering himself all the way down.

If you are rowing well (13 SPI for lightweights; 16 SPI for heavyweights), a good rowing stroke, it seems to me, is _very_ "gymnastic," especially the explosive, jackknife-like pry with the core, back, and calves, hanging on the handle, with your weight off the seat, in the center of the drive.
Not sure exactly, but just thinking about my own stroke, the hips can swing through an arc of as much 135 degrees.
To keep timing and sequencing in order, this expansive explosion with the hips needs to be done in just a bit over a tenth of a second.
Thousands of times, every two seconds or so.

I'm somewhat of a novice in terms of rowing, but exercise, especially strength exercises, I know well. Whatever Ranger is doing in that video is absolutely worthless. That's definitely not an extension pushup....hopefully his technique on other forms of exercise is better than that....otherwise, he's all about cheating. Now those planche pushups on the other hand, that's impressive!

Quite the contrary, I think rowing might be the best kept secret out there. It seems that very few people give it any thought. I was guilty of that as well until 6 weeks ago. Jack Lalanne doing some straight arm on-the-fingertips push-ups. In the comments some people warn that attempting this could cause a lower back injury.
