Training on the road

Post by jdaddy55 » December 20th, 2009, 11:38 am

Hi. I'm away from a C2 rower from 12/26-1/3 and I'm concerned about losing fitness. Any advice on what I can substitute? I will have access to a bike, weight training and treadmills. Thanks.

I don't think you'll lose a lot of fitness in that short amount of time - with my athletes, I generally maintain that 1 week off won't set you back any, 2 weeks off will require a week to catch up, 3 weeks requires 2 weeks catch up etc.

Time away from erg is perfect for the non-specific cross-training that everybody should do. Of course, I don't know your specific training or training plans, but a bike and treadmill are ideal for the longer aerobic base developing pieces: 3 x 20 min on a bike, or one or two 5-10K runs.
