LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Hello all,
You all seem like the type of team I should join so I did! Who doesn't want to go to the moon?
I'm a brand new rower, just getting started. I recently bought a model D for fitness and weight loss. So far I'm loving it! I've only been rowing a few days and I'm feeling great. I thought I should take advantage of the motivation that joining a team can give and you guys seem just about crazy enough for me!
Looking forward to seeing Tranquility Base in person!

Hiya, Bish, and welcome to the LunaQuest. We're ALL looking forward to seeing Tranquility Base ... that's going to be some party ... especially with the Aussies kicking-off the celebration.bish wrote:Hello all,

The team motivation makes all the difference. I started 2 years ago and I know I would have languished along the way if it wasn't for the interaction and, especially, K2's insights.
Welcome New Crew Member!
Hooyah! And hello Bish! Welcome to the Luna-Tics! We wish you many enjoyable hours of rowing on our way to the moon! We're making good headway on our journey!
Luna-Tics Team History:
2003 - Virtual Teams instituted by C2. Matt Forsbacka, being slightly influenced by his work for NASA founds the LUNA-TICS year-round team. His goal? To row to the moon. Calling all hands...Calling all hands...
The year end stats show 7 team mates, and the team placing #72 out of 1437 teams that year. Total team meters: 3,874,123.
2004 - The year end stats show 11 team mates and the team placing #94 out of 1233 teams in existence that year. Total team meters: 4,500,044.
2005 - The year end stats show 15 team mates and the team placing #71 out of 1211 teams in existence that year. Total team meters: 8,321,188.
2006 - The year end stats show 19 team mates and the team placing #72 out of 1066 teams in existence that year. Total team meters: 8,507,331.
2007 - Formation of the LUNA-TICS challenge team by Kristine Strasburger. The year end stats show 25 team mates and the team placing #47 out of 1137 teams in existence that year. Total team meters: 14,265,122.
2008 - Challenge team captain discovers the C2 forum, and begins team recruiting efforts for the Holliday Challenge. LUNA-TICS Team Room on the forum established. The year end stats show 59 team mates and the team placing #11 out of 1234 teams in existence that year. Total team meters: 48,110,121.
2009 – year end stats show 81 teammates and team meters 85,778,613 m. Team placed 5th or 6th out of all the teams. (note that some of the numbers changed with the linkage of new team members in 2010 rowing year…) Added this comment 11.19.09 JS
I think these stats prove that the forum participation is a huge factor in helping people achieve their goals, and in setting goals they never thought possible. Everyone is encouraged by sharing our lives with one another, so thanks again to all of you for taking the time out of your day to visit with us here. You never know whose life you are affecting in a positive way with your presence and words. (KS wrote this)
A word or two of explanation for those perusing the team forum or new to the team: in addition to celebrating the distances that Concept2 acknowledges as milestones, we've added our own lunar customization!
a supernova designates that the individual has rowed the equivalent of 100,000 m in a 24 hr period (yep....we have one who does this)
a red giant designates that the individual has rowed the equivalent or more of 50,000 m in a 24 hr period
a full moon designates that the individual has rowed the equivalent or more of a full marathon 42,195 m in a 24 hr period
a half moon designates that the individual has rowed the equivalent or more of a half marathon 21,097 m in a 24 hr period
half or full marathons are completed in one sitting

Just to follow on from K2’s comment above….Motivation comes in many shapes and forms …..
I must share Tomo’s story... He has been doing ‘intervals over the past week (wonder where he gets that from ). It is usually 1,000m + 500m + 250m with a 2 minute rest between each with each distance rowed faster than the previous. Some days he has done it twice with a 5 minute jump on the trampoline between each set.
His average row time has been around 12:30 – 13:00 minutes excluding rest time.
Last night he took 2 minutes off his time 10:30…amazing ; but when I asked how he did it his response was very motivating….he said….well I just knew I could go faster so I dug deep and rowed my heart out!
Good on him!

Welcome Bish!!!
I got into rowing to lose a little poundage myself. Been doin it for a couple years now with a couple interruptions. I've found that I'm much more flexible, and stronger, and so far this season I've lost close to 20 pounds. I know I'd probly never would have stuck it out this long without the team.
Good Luck
To the Moon!!

You go, Tomo!
Wowzer, Bazzy ! You must be setting some pretty good examples for Tomo! Just goes to show that kids have a lot of good things to say. I think he has five more years before he can compete in the CRASH B sprints (I believe participants have to be at least 14), but if he sticks with erging as a good cross-training sport - or just for the sport itself...whoa...lots of possibilities there! Thanks for sharing the story!
We have a lot of younger rowers on our team - would be great to see more of them on the boards over the holiday season. Coulter is putting some meters on the board, too!

Re: Fifty Eight Million Meters
Hooyah! I'm not hearing any naysayers about the 100 MM meter team season.....and thanks to Mitch's fourth half marathon, we've just rowed past the 58 MM mark. Marvelous, simply marvelous! A new teammate, a new milestone, more half marathons , and inspiration from a young crew member. Great day, I'd say.Kona2 wrote: I'm dreaming of a 100 MM team season.......
Row strong everyone! Target moon awaits!

Happy Anniversary, Gina!
I was browsing on Facebook, Gina! BTW, there's a free C2 application that lets you show your recent workouts and season/lifetime meters on FB. I'm not sure why I'd particularly want to do this, especially if I hadn't been following Tomo's challenge, but it's easy to add: concept2.com/facebook ... and follow the instructions.
