No, apparently, not.

I _wish_ 55s lwts were faster, but unfortunately, wishing isn't seeing.

The 55s lwt 2K WR-holder does 1:44.5 for 1Kr24.

While it's certainly fascinating that a 1Kr24 time predicts a one-legged 2K-12 free rate time, to row-row is better than to jaw-jaw (to paraphrase Churchill).

When are you going to stop extrapolating WR times and start rowing them?

OK, you wont own up to the lie.. that makes you a troll (someone that purposefully says things to get a rise out of other people).

I had been trying to see if there was some kind of method to your madness.. some way that you were looking at the data such that you thought you were actually telling the truth. But, that isnt the case. You have clearly demonstrated your willingness to lie, to be dis-honest and deceitfull, that's a different thing.

so, you are dismissed.

Been there, done that.

I already have three WR rows.

Good training proceeds from low rates to high.

You can jump to high rates if you want, but if you do, you eliminate all of the significant parts of your training.

If I hadn't already rowed 6:27.5, 6:28, 6:28.5, 6:29, 6:29.7, 6:30, etc., I suppose I would do this, just to see what I could do.

But I already know what I can do if I elide all the significant parts of my training and sharpen: 6:28-6:30.

Nothing to be learned there.

So these days, I am interested in what I can do if I train well, proceeding from low rates to high.

I am now rowing at 27-32 spm, so I am getting rates up pretty high.

This is distance/threshold rowing, but it is not yet sharpening or racing.

I'll sharpen at 40 spm.

I'll race at 36 spm.

Dangy boy,

Can you name one sportsman in any sport that brook his pb s after the age of 50, not being a total novice.
By novice I mean someone who hasn,t competed in races yet. One example would be enough

Fair enough, though suggest it would be more accurate to say you completed four races last season.
ranger wrote:You were impressed with my results six or seven years ago?...What about three years ago, when I pulled 6:29.7 at 55, without even preparing for it?
You would be well served to take compliments when they are given rather than churlishly upbraid the giver for not paying sufficient attention to you.

Based on the sporadic attention I give to this whole topic, the impression is that by your own standards, anything less than a WR row is below expectation. Further, you have not really raced hard or trained to race since '03 (or thereabouts).

From my irregular and quick reads of the the forums & blogs, WRs are the standard to which you hold all others. I may have missed something, as my interest in 50+ erging stats is not all that great. Truth be told, this is the case for all erging stats, my own included. Your knowledge in this area seems almost encyclopedic & I defer to you in that regard.

Like many others, I am far more interested in stuff directly relevant to me (or about me  ), such as - "I enjoyed my first season sculling and am reasonably happy with my race results, but how can I improve given the doc has told me my hip problem cannot be fixed without replacement surgery ?".

That said, I do not have the desire to start or maintain a thread that is primarily about me (though, like every other newbie, I did briefly when first finding the C2 forums).

The topic on these forums that really gets my interest is training methods. I did my best for a while to maintain one on The Wolverine Plan, but it seems that there is a lot less interest it in these days than would sustain an active thread. A shame, but then again, there is a lot of clear documentation from Mike Caviston and plenty of good supporting information in the archives, so maybe further chat is redundant.

Sincerely, Patrick.

Not quite. ranger has stated endlessly that his sights are firmly set on a 6:16 2K. Something that puts him up there with Olympic hopefuls.

We must never, ever lose sight of this target because even if ranger sets a new WR aged 60 (actually quite likely), he must be reminded at all times that the target was 6:16 and not the beating of an age group WR by a full time athlete.

you know, it takes two to tango guys. the reason the ranger threads go on so long is other people keep baiting ranger.

IMHO - the guy's earned the right to toot his horn a little. maybe if he was some middle-of-the-packer his posts would be totally stupid, but he's the reigning champ for his age-weight class and he's bagged some WRs. there are plenty of folks out there who put in the time and aren't any near to doing those things (probably the exact same folks that keep poking at ranger). seems pretty clear than ranger is (a) a blowhard and (b) smarter than your average bloke.

Indeed.

When I am fully trained, my goal is 6:16, not 6:28 (my pb), much less 6:38 (the 55s lwt WR), or 6:42 (the 60s lwt WR).

Sure, but this has (perhaps?) been a little too optimistic, given that I have only been doing foundational training.

After my distance training, I think I will pull sub-6:30, but probably not before.

I won't pull sub-6:20 until I am fully trained (i.e., after I am not with full sharpening and perhaps a month or so of racing).

Sure, _I_ did.

I first started racing in 2002, when I was 51.

In 2003-2004, when I was 52, I pulled a lwt 6:36 (which was a lwt pb for me), then two weeks later) a lwt 6:33, then (two weeks later) a lwt 6:30, then (six months later) a lwt 6:29, then (two weeks later) a lwt 6:28.

Progress from there demanded that I learn to row more effectively.

I have now done that.

So, I think I am now ready to continue this series, all the way down to a lwt 6:16.

lwt 6:28 (55 lwt WR), lwt 6:25 (50s lwt WR), 6:22 (60s lwt WR), 6:20, 6:18 (40s lwt WR, 55s hwt WR), 6:16.

Your definition of "little" and mine are clearly at opposite ends of the spectrum. Prof. Cureton has been blowing his trumpet with the same dull old crap for all the time I've been a member of this forum and the UK one at http://concept2.co.uk/forum, he appears to have been doing it (to the point of total tedium) for some time longer than that.

There have been some interesting offers and bets (one including gold bars) from the folks that feed on his stuff over that time.
