All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 9.28.09

Post by Kona2 » September 29th, 2009, 10:30 am

And now a look at the year round team! Demonstrating the amazing recuperative powers of the cupcake, Kiba bounces back from sick daze to a red giant (50K or more in a day)! In fact, we are surrounded by a red giant, a full moon, and FIVE half moons - and the many stars contributed by our rowing crew today! Meanwhile, somewhere in Utah, our teammate continues his epic canoe journey Image ! Image Minnie has found her way back to the erg, and Peter and Lilia say Buono Sera - we're headed to Buenos Aires - see you in a month as they fly off to yet another honeymoon (and a few cases of Malbec). Some say there are double the celebrations when residents of two different countries get married! Image Image A small spacecraft hovers briefly over Duluth....and yes - it's Tony! What a day this has been - rowing over half a million meters (thanks in large part to a boatload of meters brought in by new crewman John) we are more Luna-Tic than ever! The moon beckons.....

Season meters as of 151/365 = 39,958,898 m

Total meters on the day = 552,980 m

Oars in space (participation) = 41 percent

I'm back.

Post by DuluthMoose » September 29th, 2009, 11:32 am

Got back late yesterday afternoon and did my first row in 3 weeks. It felt pretty good, although my output was down a couple hundred meters considering the heart rate I was rowing at.

Kona2, I would hardly call my 46 mile, 4.5 day easy float adventure in Labyrinth Canyon epic..., but it sure was spectacular scenery! It was a special trip. I'll see if I can get some pictures from it posted in the next few days (after I get my tomatoes put up). For the last 10 days my wife and I have been touring a few of the National Parks out West including Arches, the north rim of the Grand Canyon, Great Basin, Golden Spike Nat. Monument, and others. Had a really nice time except maybe for the last 3 days of 30-45mph winds out on the open road in Montana, N Dakota, and Minnesota. I'm so glad our big 18 foot Wenonah Champlain was being towed behind us on a trailer rather than being car-topped!

Epic = Drama

Post by Kona2 » September 29th, 2009, 11:54 am

Hi ya Moose! I had no real idea that you were back (although I suspected it should be soon), but the term epic fit the day's drama! Glad you are back on the erg! Can't wait to see photos!

Post by Calamity » September 30th, 2009, 1:47 am

despite my best intents of rowing more, I tripped over a toy last week and broke my toe against a door jam. I am trying to rest it up a little and then we had a big log fire at boise cascade along with control burns making even the inside of houses hazy with smoke.
Hope to be back in action this week.

Secret Ontario Laboratory

Post by Kona2 » September 30th, 2009, 8:47 pm

Image

Meanwhile, in her secret mountain laboratory, Kiba tries a new recipe - one she thought of while rowing a red giant (50,000 m in a day for those new to this distance terminology). Wild Bill hopes that the new recipe is for a 5 million meter cupcake....he's sure he will need one tomorrow. No pressure, though.

Our competition never knows when a red giant or a supernova may be deployed....of course, WE never know either, but it's nice to have a secret weapon.

Jane, sorry to hear about the toe. That must hurt.

Yay to Andrea and Sorin, back on board!

And Moose, it is noticeable when you are gone! These past two days I have finally gotten to rowing to the lake video you sent. It has helped me up the meters I have rowed in my alloted 30 min. daily time.

Sorry for the lack of metres!! Back at work, and weight training five days a week at present. Hopefully my time management will improve next week!

But I take my hat off to those rowing 'furiously' :D absolutely oarsome!

.....weather is warming up in Sydney 30c today and feeling like summer (hooray). Off camping and walking this weekend and we have a holiday on Monday....

Cheers

A moosage from Moose

Post by DuluthMoose » October 1st, 2009, 8:14 am

Glad that video is helping your rowing Kristine. On my recent canoe trip in Labyrinth Canyon I took about 4 hours worth of video while canoeing in the canyon. I hope it turns out good enough to piece together another video to row by. Who knows, maybe it will become another challenge incentive sometime....
