Thanks for the heads up. I signed up and listed my most recent 2k time. I 'd welcome recommendations on what to use as a handicap time.

David/SlugButt

Thinking about it +3.5/500m may be a bit harsh. 2K+4.5 is more like it.

Sorry to false feed you information. We could take an average for all that enter and see what figure comes up.

Sir Pirate

Nothing to do with me I know and I will bow to your superior knowledge Sir Pirate but double the D add 5 would say +2.5/500m wouldnt it?

I know for sure that I don't fancy rowing it at 1:38.5 pace.

I don't fancy going through the 1st 2K at 6.34 then rowing another 1000m on top at the same pace.

You can try it if you want though

Sir Pirate
Ranger says double the D add 3 which is great because it rhyms but is a little bit too fast. Im saying double the D add 5.

In answer to your question, I dont know if I could row 3000m in (my case) 1:40.8 but I wouldnt have thought Id be far off. Your saying add 4.5/500m which would be 1:42.8 for me and thats not far from my 5k pace so I will agree to meet you half way and that way you can save face as it means your original prediction is correct !

Based on the entries so far here's an overview of the handicaps. A second overflow race has been set up as well. At race day we'll divide in more than one race and determine final handicaps when more than 8 rowers show up.

2 notes:
I've entered a dummy time for Bert. Bert, can you provide a target time?
I've applied the 'double the D, add 5' rule to Slugbutt's target time. Let me know David if you want to change it.
I can't make the 17:30 GMT race. I think that I could make it at 18:00. My Le Tour time is my only hard 3K this year, with at time of 10:04.3

Paul Flack

OK, let's push back the start half an hour then. Let's make sure though that everyone has made themselves familiar with the handicap rules so we don't have to waste time at the start. Mark made an excellent overview of the handicap etiquette a while ago over here:

Handicap Race Rules

btw, I've updated the handicap calcs per the post above.

I didn't want you to delay the entire race just for me. I thought you would have the second heat, which had no one entered at the time, go off at 18:00. But, it is done now.

Thanks,

Paul Flack
