Hi ,

There are currently two PowPro Marathons listed on the server with eight rowers taking part.

It would be great to see more races listed with a few more rowers taking part on the 12th of December.

If you have e-row then set up a marathon or join us on the digitalrowing server or download the free evaluation copy of RowPro and join us.

Also some class acts appearing, Paul Flack and Andreas Van Tonder ( BIRC Champion ), would be great if Dwayne could make it, invited him but no answer as yet.

Also some plodders like myself, time not so important as just completeng the marathon challenge.

Hope to see you online, regards Paul.

I reluctantly signed up for the first race - the one that starts at 4:00 AM my time. I have done this before with rather poor race results. But, someone needs to keep Andreas company.

I can understand if Dwayne isn't up (pun?) for a 1:00 AM race. (Pacific Time) But, he should be able to do a 1:50 paced marathon in his sleep!

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Hi,

There are now 10 rowers entered for the two RowPro Marathon's listed on the 12th of December.

How many more are up for it?

You can set up your own marathon at a time that suits you if you can't make the others. Set up through e-row on the new digitalrowing server or through RowPro.

If you haven't yet got RowPro then download the evaluation copy and upgrade to the latest Beta version. You have ten trials, so save one for the Marathon.

Regards Paul.

BE PART OF THE FIRST ONLINE ROWPRO MARATHON, ALL WELCOME, ANY PACE

I woke up this morning at 3:20 AM to row in the RowPro marathon with Andreas. Pieter and Paul Knight were there, but no Andreas. We all saw "Gym1" flash on the chat for a second, but disappear and not show again. So we set up and started another marathon race.

All of our conncetions were good for the entire three hours and the results were saved. I was in 3D mode because I was expecting a very close race with Andreas and forgot to switch back to 2D. I only saw the other boats at the start and finish line. But, I could tell by the distance and pace readings how the other two boats were doing.

A few pop up adds started showing up after half an hour. I stopped to clear them and my average climbed 0.3 seconds! After another half hour, the $#%# pop ups showed again and I cleared them. Again, the penalty was 0.3 seconds added to my average. But, I saw around the first pop up that RowPro was still reading my strokes and I could still see the other's distances and paces.

When the next bout of pop ups happened, I let them be. I couldn't afford to lose any more time if I was going to beat Andreas' season best. I knew he would be out there rowing somewhere and had to beat his old time. If he didn't get a PB, then it is down the ladder for him!

When I finally finished, I cleared about two dozen advertisements for dating, cell phones, etc. and could see by the distance and pace indicators that the other two boats were moving well. My view was the finish line and I didn't see the boats until they were at their last 10 meters.

Paul, for some reason, kept rowing after he crossed the finish line. His boat no longer moved, but his oars kept going. He stopped flapping his oars when Pieter crossed the finish.

During the row, my power output graph stopped working properly around the 10K mark. The HR graph continued to work properly.

I checked my splits, and I have 18 splits instead of 20. For some reason, each is recorded twice.

I looked at my power output/HR chart and it really tells the whole story. I could see where I took drinks and where I lost a lot of time clearing my computer screen of pop ups.

The scale is a bit off though. The graphs show me powering along at a fairly constant 500+ watts. Oh, how I wish! I would put Dwayne to shame. To get that type of output, my heart was ticking along at a constant 320 bpm. I guess that make sense.

Overall, the row was a good one for me. I am pleased to put a RowPro marathon file out there for all the "plodders", such as Roland from Australia, to use in training.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Well done for sticking with it Paul, all those pop-ups would have done me. When you are getting tired you look for any little reason to stop, that would have been a great reason to stop for me.

I won’t use Row Pro on-line, to many bugs in it I feel. It is great offline, I am nearly at the end of my 10 free goes, and I shall be buying the full version when my goes are up.

What time did you finish with Paul?

Sir Pirate
I was scheduled for the 2nd online marathon today, at 11 am eastern time (for some reason, Paul decided to row at 4 am instead). 4 other people had signed up for it. Maybe this was a breach of rowpro etiquette, but I emailed then in advance, just to see what people were planning and to make sure we showed up on time, etc. The result was that they all withdrew. But two other people then signed up, one of whom no showed, so I did the marathon with one other person. Because of the no show rowpro crashed for us on the first time through. But the QR started no problem.

For some reason, I struggled at the start, my heart rate jumped over 150, when my plan had been to stay under 150 for the whole row. Maybe it was adrenaline, maybe it was caffine leftover from breakfast, but it threw me off a bit. But then I settled in and went the first 17k without stopping, when I had to switch DVDs. So the middle of the row was pretty easy. Strangely then I struggled again at the end just trying to close it out. But the end time was 3:07, which was 24 minutes faster than the other M I have done, so I guess that is a PB. I had to stop rowing last March due to a shoulder injury, so this proves that I am at least 85% back, and that rowing has nothing to do with my shoulder pain.

I underestimated the logistics of having to change DVDs, so if I do this again in 2 years, I will skip that and just watch TV. If you are wondering, the extreme skiing DVD was a better choice for a snowy day in Vermont, then Led Zeppelin live in concert, but both were pretty good. Football started at 1pm, so for the last hour I was in audio visual overload.

For some reason, rowpro didn't save my stroke data, so I can't offer that up for other plodders. But all in all, a pretty good row.
