PS - How are you guys doing with all the wildfires in your area right now? LA is not known for having great air as it is....

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 8.29.09

Post by Kona2 » August 30th, 2009, 9:47 am

An auspicious day with a crew birthday party AND celebrating that we are ONE-THIRD of the way through the rowing year (seems like it is rolling along). 29 MM meters looms on the Luna-Tics rowing horizon where it will be highlighted by today's full moon (thanks to Wild Bill) and four half moons (Mike C, Chris, Barbara and Dan). Good rowing by all! And....there WAS a hole in one at yesterday's tourney - just not at the sponsored hole! Good stuff!

Season meters as of 120/365 = 28,911,888 m

Total meters on the day = 205,718 m

Oars in space = 19 percent

MILESTONES....Bragging Rights....Celebrations:

300K Teresa

Image Full moon for Wild Bill with 43,000 m
Image Chris rows out half marathon # 80 on the year
Image Dan with half marathon # 65 and then some with 32,153 m
Image Mike C with 24,335 m earns a half moon
Image Barbara with half marathon # 32 and 21,505 m

TWO Million Meter Watch:

Chris with just (23,995 m) to go! She might finish this one off today!

ONE Million Meter Watch:

Imagewith (65,358 m) to go! IRC = Indoor Rowing Championships? Which IRC would you like to participate in?

Thanks to today's crew for each meter you rowed!

Coulter 2,000 m
K2 7,500 m
Teresa 8,018 m
Tom R 8,522 m
Steven 10,000 m
Jim 13,037 m
Darryl 14,551 m
Chris 21,097 m
Barbara 21,505 m
Mike C 24,335 m
Dan 32,153 m
Wild Bill 43,000 m

Happy Birthday Gina!!!

So, as an explanation to my absence:

My neighbours are pretty upset about my rowing machine, so I need to invest in a good mat to put under it. Only since school is just starting I don't really have any money at all to spare. Then combined with the fact that when I moved here I didn't have any friends, so I've been on this huge social quest. So now it's kind of flipped the other way, and I have 40 people who all want to hang out with me, and I hardly have 2 minutes a day to myself. Which is technically pretty nice since I was feeling really lonely after moving. And that's my story. The summary being that after I pay tuition and buy my books I'll know how much money I have to spend, and once I get the mat I'll have more time to sneak in metres. Plus, once school starts, now I live in a city with water everywhere, so I might be able to get in some on the water metres, which would be really cool.

Happy Birthday Gina!

Lilia - Great stuff witnessing youth in one of life's learning experiences. Thanks for posting!

Kiba - We need to figure out how to get you back on the rower inexpensively. I'm wondering if something like softTiles 5/8" thick interlocking foam mats would work to cut the transfer of noise through your floor. You can find them in any Home Depot type store in the States. Take a look in Canadian Tire.

Good idea!

Remember, you only need rubber pads under the front and rear legs, so just 4 or 5 square feet should do it.

Lots of effort there ... thx for the visual, Lilia!

I was planning to row now, but made a fresh corn and coconut milk soup for dinner, which included a chopped jalapeno ... my fingers are on fire ... how can I possibly grip the handles while blowing on my hands ... ! (Note to self ... wear gloves to chop up a fresh jalapeno!)

Crikey....that sounds pretty good, fresh corn and coconut milk soup for dinner, which included a chopped jalapeno .. Thanks Chris........

But.......I will now have to have it for dinner before I head off on the walk this Thursday, otherwise it will haunt me as I sit around around the camp-fire tucking into another packet of dehydrated something.......

Okay, a small confession, I will be eating Janet's (the better half of BBB) fine home cooked meals the first three nights of the walk as we will be close to Sydney. In fact the first night finishes within about 5 kilometres of home... perhaps it will include this soup! :P

I like the recipes that pop up from time to time! :D

Cheers

If any of the "serious" rower boys still peruse these posts from time to time, they'll have a field day with a recipe exchange ... but here are the ingredients, if Janet likes specifics:

Corn & Coconut Soup (serves 4)
Bring 1 jalapeno chile (seeded and chopped), 3 cups fresh corn kernels, 1 can (14 oz) coconut milk, and 2-1/2 cups water or chicken broth to a boil in a saucepan. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Puree in a blender or use an immersion blender. (Strain through a coarse sieve if you want a smooth soup ... it looks better, but that's all.) Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice. Garnish with chopped Thai basil, or black pepper. Serve hot; or chill for at least 3 hours to serve cold.

Good luck on your walk. Packed lots of moleskin?
