And I'm back!!

My move went pretty slowly, and somehow I'm missing a few screws for my erg... which spent most of it's time in small pieces, so I don't really have any metres to show for that whole time. But I did successfully finish a summer course and move to a new city!

I'm in an apartment now, and I was wondering if anyone else here rows in an apartment. Are my neighbours going to be angry with me? I can't really tell just how loud my erg is. The floors are pretty thin, 4 to 6 inches of concrete. I can hear my neighbours on my own floor, but I'm not sure if I can hear my neighbours above. I tried folding up towels to put under the legs, but then everything got really slippy. Maybe using a few yoga mats under it? Any advice you guys have would be welcome.

I'll work on catching up with everything that's happened since I left.

Hiya and welcome back. I noticed on a post elsewhere that some people put bath mats (the rubber ones with suction, that you put in the tub so you don't slip) under their erg. It's mostly to stop the erg from sliding as they pull so hard and fast (can't imagine this, personally), but it would probably deaden any sound, also.

I'll wave to you as you whoosh back past me in the standings!

Welcome back!! :D

Glad the move went well - good luck in your new apartment.

With concrete floors your neighbors under you should not hear a thing.

That sounds like a good idea Chris.

I think I was taking my fitness level completely forgranted. It's been almost a month since I've rowed, and I just rowed 2500 m, and it was soooo hard. It felt like I was trying to row through glue encrusted sand in the desert. And no, I'm pretty sure it's me and not my erg. My drag factor is at 100 and it's not making any funny noises or anything..

Hooray for the return of Kiba! You will note that we've all missed you!

RE: What to put under the erg to deaden the noise?

There are mats that fitness equipment stores sell to put under treadmills and such. I found that these were a bit short for the erg, but they do work to lessen the noise. I think it will be more fun to see if your neighbors can guess what the whooshing sound is....

Thanks for the welcome backs!

I just rowed another 2500m, it was a lot easier. I think I just have to find my rhythm again.

I'll tell my neighbours I've installed a wave pool in my living room :P
