Well, I was doing really well with my rowing, and on June 19 I had an emergency appendectomy. Recovery has been slow because I was so sick before the surgery was done, and worst of all I have strict instructions not to do any ab work ("that means rowing," said surgeon, in case I was confused) for 6 weeks.
SIX weeks. Ugh.
I am sad that I will lose all the ground I gained before. Encouragement please.

what to do
Did the doctor give you what you can do? Take the time that you use to row and engage in the activity that you are able to do. If it is walking then walk, If that is not allowed that again take that time and do something positive for your mind - read books on knowledge even training or fitness or motivation books.
I lost 4 weeks of my life at age 19 in a motorcycle accident and ended up with a broken face (jaw, cheek bone, eye orbit). Went from 190 @ 14% body fat down to 135 with my jaw wired for 8+ weeks. This was in the fall and by May of the next year I was back to my starting weight and fitness by taking it one day at a time and doing only what I was able to do. I became a book reader in my downtime and over time I regained fitness enough to run in some marathons ect.
Do not look what you may loose but look towards the future and do what you are able to do. Do not loose that rowing time to TV time.
Good luck
