CorePerform-like idea

Post by bloomp » June 7th, 2009, 6:42 pm

I haven't been able to get a CorePerform, but I've been thinking about the concept of it. It claims to help emulate a boat, where you are much less stable than the erg, but really all it would do is strengthen your hip adductors/abductors and iliopsoas as your feet are still anchored into the machine and that is what will stabilize you.

So my idea is simple. Cut the erg slide from the backstops, install a very strong rod that would swivel about 20 degrees to either side, and do the same for the front end of the erg, but ensure to keep the footplates with the part that would swivel. This would essentially be the same as being in a boat that could be offset to either side and it would be very difficult to use initially, but would train a rower much better for a single or even larger boats. I'm sure any rower/coach would agree that body position in the boat is one of the biggest issues in getting 8, 4 or even 2 people to row together well.

I'll post some rudimentary drawings later, but tell me what you think.

Already done. Already patent pending. (But without needing the radical damage to your erg.)

I had a go on one at the CRASH-Bs.

Wobbly. But it's got an adjustable amount of wobble so you can learn to balance it.

I'm not an OTW rower so I don't know how good it was related to a wobbly boat on a river.
