Sigh

Yes, the Vermont to Vegas is indeed measured in time. While it is not usual for Concept2 to have age limits (except in rankings and young children's club challenges), they are only a sponsor (one of many) who wishes to show that rowing is a low impact exercise that even folks over 50 can do well and get a great workout. The Vegas event that Cabot cheese virtual route leads to is the AARP convention. AARP is the Association for Retired People - thus the over 50 designation. There are a ton of studies that show that people over 50 can benefit greatly from even moderate amounts of exercise. While we burn more calories with some exercises than others, the challenge is designed to appeal to a wide range of people who are incented by the virtual challenge to get out and exercise (hopefully for at least 30 minutes a day) - whether walking, biking, rowing or running. The over 50 population can make a big impact in lessening the decline of function with moderate exercise. We're already exercising mega minutes - and can equally vie for top of the 10K leaderboard, the 7500 leaderboard, etc. (Not to mention we could take over 4th place again.) Those already signed up with Concept2 aren't really the target audience for the challenge.

The cheese trail is a bunny trail off our main objective......which is indeed to row to the moon. We are in a virtual world where all our meters count the same.....and we value the contribution of every team member!

Reading over PJM's shoulder...

Post by Kona2 » May 27th, 2009, 9:53 am

Cool new stuff available through the Million Meter Club ! Concept2 has taken to heart many of our team suggestions on the prize availability and type.

Go to your logbook, click on challenges, and look at the Million Meter Club section. You will find many different things there. Gotta get a 5 MM hat soon! :D

Thanks to PJM and Timbuktoo for the information....we do read over each other's posts!

So ... it looks like there are no more freebies from C2

I guess my collection of C2 glasses will remain incomplete

For me, anyway, having to buy the Million Meter Club prizes somehow diminishes their meaning.

Oh well ...

Say it ain't so!

Freebies are still available, BUT you can also purchase other prizes..
Best of both! The hats do look nice.

865 K meters to decide whether I want a glass or another pair of socks, these are the quandries that keep me awake at night....or at least rowing daily.

It's not a link from the logpage, you have to go to the website

http://www.concept2.com/us/motivation/a ... prizes.asp

but now that I read it, it's only the shirts and pins, alas no more socks or glasses! Glad I got my socks when I did!

Looks like they might hide the link to the free prizes page unless you exactly match the 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 MM club. I'm in the 1MM club currently, so my page says:

As a member of the 1 Million Meter Club, you qualify for:
* Free Prizes from Concept2
* Speciality for-purchase items from CafePress
* A Million Meter Club Certificate

"Free Prizes" links to a 1MM Prize Request Form. Once I reach 2MM I guess it'll disappear. Confusing...

It's all good. After all, it's not about the freebies (but they were nice ...)

10 million meters isn't that far off.

My dreams of one day having my own glass collection have just been shattered, and I liked the water bottles too. The UK Concept 2 site sells all kinds of stuff, but I don't think they ship to North America.

I think I've decided to try making my own glasses, well, paint/etch glasses I bought at a store. I read a little about it and it doesn't look too hard, you can just copy out a stencil onto adhesive vinyl and then paint or use this etching cream. I'm not sure how well it works though. If I have any success I wouldn't mind making them for other people if you want them.

Keep your rowing seatbelts fastened, mates! Don't want you to get disoriented looking at all the stars! And, btw, the North Texas crew has not updated their meters in some time....when they do, it is likely to be a position change for us.....rowing more would be good!

Image Whoa! A flying saucer was spotted hovering briefly over Duluth, MN yesterday. It appears that the aliens needed Tony's gardening expertise on another planet - and now have returned him!
Image

Season meters as of 27/365 = 7,815,816 m (8 million on today's horizon!)

Total meters on the day = 204,017 m

Oars in space = 35 percent

MILESTONES....Bragging Rights....Celebrations:

200K K2
Image Half Marathon # 3 K2

ROWED THE DISTANCE:

Image HALF Moon = greater than 21,097 m

William H with 30,000 m

And thanks to all of today's crew for the meters and sharing the journey:

Tony 3,333 m
Kevin 3,500 m
Tom M 6,537 m
Peter G 7,500 m
Mary 7,537 m
Mike M 10,000 m
Peter H 10,000 m
Steven 10,000 m
Dan 11,321 m
Chris 11,550 m  (the erg DOES have a setting other than HM!)
Barbara 13,030 m
Mitch J 16,128 m
Kiba 20,000 m
Baz 20,581 m
K2 23,000 m
William H 30,000 m

Row strong! Today is the last day of week four! Our previous week's totals are:

Baz,

On numerous occasion I have felt a little off my feed and forced my self to saddle up. Amazingly within 5-10 minutes most of the ague has dissipated and I felt better and for several hours after. I must point out this was not a PB row, just enough to get the blood circulating until I felt better. It works for allergiies too and I have plenty of the airborne type.

Hope you feel better soon.
