Some say....visualizing your goal is a key to success.....to the moon, mates, to the moon! Moon fact: the diameter of the moon is about one-quarter the diameter of the earth....

Welcome back, Kaptain Kris (and Ben and Tim)! We have 40 team members currently.

Speeding through the universe, we note that Toothdoc has a rodent cage in tow of his rowing machine. Much discussion held around the species of rodent....Toothdoc readily admitting that he is, after all, a Toothdoc, and is apt to overlook other features (at least in rodents).

Greetings from Mitch Terra Sanitatis- THE MYSTERY SOLVED

Post by bklynrower » May 7th, 2009, 3:05 pm

Hey Luna-Tics
To inspire myself I gave myself a middle name since my folks never gave me one. Terra Sanitatis is a spot on the moon translated from Latin into English as The Land of Healthiness. That's where I want to be.
see-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fe ... n_the_Moon
We all could use a good spot!!! :D

That's worth a double-take on so many levels ... a 7-inch long, hairy, barking tarantula got my attention, as did reading tomorrow's news, today!

I'm all for more hamsters, and fewer horror-movie beasties.

Thanks for the makeagif link, Kiba. I'll see if I can animate something ... maybe a little glitter ...

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 5.7.09

Post by Kona2 » May 8th, 2009, 10:45 am

Congratulations! You made it through the week! And what a week it was with 41 crew members (welcome back Voodoogirl Laurie) posting over TWO million meters, including 15 HMs and 3 Red Giants !

In the chart below, the top tube is week 1 2010, and the bottom tube is week 1 2009 (29 crew members). Great start to the rowing year!

Image

Mike C reports a cryptic message scrawled graffiti-like on his rowing machine...Image and discovers that once again abduction has indeed occurred in an unusual game of galactic hide and seek. In a special naming ceremony, Crewman Mitch Terra Sanitatis also chooses our lunar landing site near the sea of tranquility. Crew heartily supports both choice of name and landing site. And finally, there's been a run on ship's stores for spider repellant as crew members discover a recently hatched spider herd in the Aussie rowing contingent. Bazzy says "no worries", I'll catch them! Image Image

Season meters as of 7/365 = 2,024,785 m

Total meters on the day = 289,451 m

Oars in space = 51 percent

I'm not sure if it's new or not, but I hadn't seen it before. It's pretty exciting how there's a summer challenge now. I'd been thinking how the summer seemed fairly void of challenges, specifically considering that's probably when lots of people row the most.

What's the countdown to the next trip?

Post by DuluthMoose » May 9th, 2009, 12:18 pm

Kona2 - My summer paddling calendar is filling fast. (There will be plenty of opportunities for those rowers who want to pass me up in meters rowed....)

May 26 - 4 days in the BWCA chasing lake trout. ....although my entry point lake is still froze tight from the last clear day Sat photo I've seen.
July 1 to 4 (tentative) I have applied to be considered for leg one of the paddling crew in a voyageur canoe that will travel 350 miles in Ontario and Minnesota as part of the celebration for the 100th anniversary of the Quetico Park and the Superior National Forest.
July 9-17 - My own Quetico journey. Planning a 110 mile trip this year for 6.
Aug 7-9 - lower 50 miles of the Wisconsin River
Sept - working with an outfitter and planning a 60 mile trip on the Green River near Moab Utah throiugh Canyonlands NP.

I can't believe that it took me more than 30 seconds to figure out who is Spidey! I was mid-HM last night, minding my own business, when a substantial (I would have said HUGE before seeing that 7 inch tarantula) spider walked into the room and settled down under the flywheel. It drove the dog crazy, trying to get it without getting her head bonked by my obsessive rowing. I ended up smushing it (spider, not dog) with my Gatorade bottle ... it looked much smaller then! which segues to my actual point ... home made sports drinks:

Homemade Sports Drink
Researched from various sites, including: eHow.com, The Dead Runner’s Society; Trainharder.com; cycling performance tips (cptips.com); helium.com; bikeforums.net. You might consider using a sports drink for electrolyte replacement whenever your workout is over 60 minutes.

These homemade drinks use approx. the same formula as Gatorade per 8 oz (52 calorie) serving:
14 grams carb
110 mg sodium
30 mg potassium

Makes 2 liters (approx. 2 quarts, or 8 cups)
To lower the glycemic index, add 2 teaspoons flax oil or olive oil.

Recipe 1:
1/2 cup orange juice (not concentrate) OR 2 tablespoons lemon juice
9 tablespoons sugar
3/8 teaspoon salt
8 cups water

Recipe 2:
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) OR additional 1/4 tsp sea salt
1/2 cup orange juice (OR 1/2 mashed banana)
2 T lemon juice
8 tablespoons sugar (OR honey OR grade B maple syrup)
2 liters water

(I have this thing about making my own stuff!)

OK fellow Luna-Tics, be advised the boat will be a little lighter for the next week or so.

I'll be "away" and unable to erg - but looking forward to the frantic catching up when I return.

Row Strong!

No dog, but I do have the occasional coyote or bobcat traipse through the yard (and a good many little tarantulas this time of year).

Just27,

I llike the recipes, but I'm a little concerned with all the sugar. Wouldn't want all these ergomaniacs to end up no teeth in their old age. Maybe sub Splenda?

dc the sugar Nazi.
