Ditto the congrats Wild Bill. The erg is cetainly a great tool to aid such results, although I assume you must have made a number of changes to your lifestyle (even if it is the amount of time you commit to exercise! ) to get there and maintain it?

On another topic, I am blown away by the competitive meters being recorded in this challenge! Hard to believe that Wild Bills approx. half million metres in 15 days is only good enough for top 20! Reading the profile of the current challenge leader is pretty insightful...
Geoff Murdoch wrote:"I run ultramarathons but found a new game I love on the erg. Rowed my first 100K for the kick off to the 1009 WRC. I hope to do at least one of these a month forever!"
Now what graphic could we have for a 100k session??
Image

Sadly (for the team & personal challenge metres) I am going on a trip to West Australia this week for 4 days (2nd -5th April), so I will drop even further back in the rankings (already finding it tough to commit the time to stay in the top 100 :( ), so I am nominating Chris T to double her (impressive B) ) efforts to mask my absence. Hows about it Chris... temporary name change to "Just 54"?
Alternatively, maybe a bunch of you could do an extra 500 metres "for me" while I am gone, just to keep the team metres up (and ease my guilt  )?

Cheers,
Dave

Gosh, Dave, normally I'd be ever-so-happy to do that for you ... but I am also going to be AWOL for that week, contemplating the Pacific Ocean from the Oregon coast. You'll just have to do a couple of those 100K sessions to assuage the guilt ... (Nice graphic, BTW!)

Post by Kona2 » March 29th, 2009, 11:44 am

Great rowing by all - the team rowed an impressive 350,601 m yesterday! We're just over the midway point of the challenge - gotta push through the next two weeks! We (all 71 of us!) are ranked number 8 overall in the challenge, and number five on the virtual club list.

Thank you to all who are rowing with the Luna-Tics team in the WRC!
Image The next full moon is on April 9th - this will help power us through the finish!

So, a question for you guys who are rowing the mega-meters...how many hours/minutes do you average on the rower on the days you do row?

Over the last 12 weeks, my shortest week was 171,887 meters in 13:39:09.0 and my longest week was 266,666 meters in 22:14:13.0.

So ... looks like I row between about 2 and 3 hours/day.

Unless I'm doing a piece for a ranking, I'll split my rowing up into 2 or 3 sessions with a break of about an hour between sessions.

Some days it feels like a lot less time, but others it feels like I'll never finish :?

Does this help with your question, Kristine?

For this challenge My goal was to hit 600K for the month. So I have been rowing twice aday 36 minutes in the morning and 60 in the evening. Some days are better than other, spring break is going to set me back I'm afraid.

Hi Kristine

Depending on the type of intervals I’m doing; but anything from 45-75 minutes a session, working at a split of around 2:05 per 500M (around 14,000m per hour). Most of my time has been spent there for the challenge. Although I throw in shorter sessions at sprint pace and then spend time warming up / warming down to pad it out to around 30 minutes. On average I’ve been doing a couple of sessions a day..

Like William H, some days feel like an eternity; others…well just turn Van Halen up loud (neighbours are begging for the challenge to finish..hahhaha)

Also, need to get the meters up as I will be away over the Easter break and there is no rower where I am going!

Cheers Baz

Kristine,

I guess I'm the turtle of the group. And working also adds to my anchor.

Normally, on work days, I row and hour in the morning before going to the office and then 2 hours when I get home. That usually adds up to about 30K. On week-ends, Fri, Sat and Sun it depends on how much red I had the night before.

Hello Fellow Loonies! My hubby came across this beautiful shot of Saturn with four moons visible. I had to share it with my teammates. I posted the link below if you want to check out other photos from the Hubbel Space Telescope.

I need to be careful where I go with this…..

I was looking at the top 20; the top 50; and the top 100. The average age in each group is 47 after excluding all the ‘109s’ from the calculations.

I’m sure any number of things could be read into that statistic, the one that stands-out for me is that as we mature (gracefully) people don’t see that as a barrier to keeping fit, bearing in mind there are some pretty impressive stats in that group…..

But not to focus just on the top 100, because anyone doing this is a winner from a health perspective.

Good work to all…….especially the LUNA-tics..
