Good eye, Dave ... I hadn't noticed that Elmo was getting sloshed on Bundy Bear's brew ...

... but, wait ... in 2000, the Bundaberg Rum company and distillery were sold to the British company, Diageo. Diageo is in the drinks business, with brands including Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Baileys, J&B, José Cuervo, Tanqueray, Guinness, Beaulieu and Sterling wines ...

... the word Diageo comes from the Latin for day (dia) and the Greek for world (geo). I take this to mean every day, everywhere, people celebrate with their brands .... Including ELMO, polar bears, and muppets everywhere! Party!

Ahhh, thats OK then... with that sort of knowledge on the world of alcohol, no wonder you were glad to get the marathon glass mug trophy!
And who am I to inhibit Elmo's imbibing!

On another topic... has anyone else questioned the new individual JVC leader's meter count for the month?? That erg mustn't have stopped since the 1st of January!! :?

Weight loss: thanks to the Christmas Challenge and the JVC, the weight (some of it gained from Christmas) is starting to come off. Dropped 8 pounds since Christmas eating normally. I'm sure there are others that have also lost weight? Anybody else?

Great incentive to keep at it. As the result of this, I'm uppiing my goal to 700,000 meters. :D

Hey, I logged in my meters just now and noticed that we have dropped to 5th place. Then I noted that the Bainbridge Island team has an average of over 1,000,000 meters. When I checked their team figures a Gary Bracken has over 43,000,000 by himself. I suspect he accidently mis-entered some figures. If he has actually logged over 43,000,000 in 18 days, I am awesomely impressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup - consistency is the key: consistent erging and consistent "normal" diet.

I'm down 6.2 pounds since Christmas - still on track :D

My goal for the JVC is 1MM - the mind is willing, we'll see if the body holds up ...

I'm sure that's a mistake - expect it to disappear after the troops come back to work on Tuesday.

William H: good job! 1M amazing feat!! Last year I did 621,000 and wasn't in shape for it (overtrained). This year, I seem to be handling it better. Hopefully, the body will hold up until the end. Intially, during this JVC I was rowing more times per day with about 5,000 per crack. Now I'm rowing 10,000 with a couple of 1/2 marathons but accomplishing about the same meters per day. With the longer rows, the weight seems to be coming off faster. I guess getting in the "zone" and staying there longer really makes a difference.

Thanks to Kona2 for all her stats, etc.

I've always been told that the key to weight loss is LSD - Long, Slow Distance.

So, yes - I think you're on the right track :D

6594 = 6 * 1099 - in case any inquiring minds wanted to know.

Yes, long slow distance works. under 5k/day I maintain, over 6k/day I lose. I've lost 5.4 lbs since 12/12/08. I rarely have more than 30 min to row so I aim for at least 6K. Someday when kids are grown I'll tackle a marathon.

Thanks everyone for the help identifying Sheepster. I was stumped. I didn't think to click on the bio link. It is great to have visitors posting in our Team Room. It is always fun to hear from new people, and share in this obsession.

Gina: way to go. :D It's difficult for many here to find the time to put the time in. I'm retired, so I have a lot of time to do it.

I did a 1/2 marathon on Sunday. Today, I woke up and my body is telling me to back off a bit. When my body talks - I listen. However, sometimes those aches and pains go away once we get started. Perhaps I'll row a little slower today. We shall see. With the others setting a good example I am encouraged more and more. However, overtraining is right around the corner! :D

Congratulations JVC team! We're still in fourth place overall, and you logged a LOTTA METERS this past 24 hours. Sometime between my first glance at the totals and the time I actually snagged a copy to post, more meters were added....which is great! Collectively, over ONE HALF MILLION METERS ROWED YESTERDAY!

Congratulations to the following milestone achievers:

600K William H
300K Chris
100K Chris C and Nigel G

Way to row!!!!
