LUBE JOB

Post by rshoffer » December 19th, 2008, 10:30 am

I HAVE A MODEL C WITH ABOUT 8 MILLION METERS ON IT. I'M BEGINNING TO HEAR A SQUEEK IN THE FLYWHEEL WHEN I GET OFF THE ROWER AND IT'S STARTING TO STOP SPINNING. I PLAN TO PULL THE FLYWHEEL BUT DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE BEST GREASE IS TO USE. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

It sounds like a transient noise that was first noticed many years ago- only occurs when the flywheel is running pretty slowly with no other associated symptoms. In our experience it can go away for a period of time and return later- seems to have something to to with the surface finish of the axle and how it interacts with the surface finish of the clutch components. Bottom line is I wouldn't do anything about it. If the noise bothers you then you might reduce or eliminate it for a period of time by removing the flywheel and wiping some light lithium grease on the inside of the clutch. C2JonW
