Now you've got me curious about that Jane. When you think about the context of the question, it's actually a pretty darn good exam question requiring an excellent understanding of science and application of it to a problem and good logic to build an answer around. Debbie, were the profs at UW in the Chemistry Dept and your chosen field of study in collusion on mid term exam questions?

I will say the student whose answer was posted didn't make any points with me in their proof that souls have mass. Without mass involved, the logic falls apart. There should have been at least a reference to Einstein.

And it is strange coincidence that the Duluth-Superior Symphony classical series theme this year is "A Cold Day in Hell". http://www.dsso.com/concerts08.html But this context is as those few doers that get the impossible done when the masses say why try.

On a warmer topic, thanks to team mate Tom P., I have just enrolled our team for the upcoming JVC, and have made a recruitment posting under the JVC topic. Science Reveals Heaviest Element Ever Discovered

Research has led to the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to
science. The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 50
deputy neutrons
and 435 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 486!
These 486 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are
surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since
Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be
detected because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into
contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction normally
taking less than a day to take up to four years to complete.

Governmentium (Gv) has a normal half-life of 2-6 years. It never decays, but
undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and
deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually
increase over time since each reorganization will cause more morons to become
neutrons, forming more isodopes and multiple oxymorons.

This bizarre characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to
believe that Governmentium (Gv) is formed whenever simple morons
reach a critical concentration and unite to form a mass of super
morons. This quantity is normally referred to as a "critical mass."
However, in the case of the unique element Governmentium (Gv) it is
called a "critical mess."
When catalyzed with money, Governmentium (Gv) becomes another recently
discovered element, Administratium (Am), that radiates the same
amount of energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but
twice as many morons.

From time to time I'm asked where the pirates come in relative to the team. I believe it had something to do with overtaking other boats, or being overtaken....which led me to pirates....and then the Space Pirates movie....or something like that. And then there was International Talk Like A Pirate Day (one that Jane and son Orion brought to our attention).... I like saying Aaaaargh..... The Somalian pirates are certainly in the news these days....cheeky dudes (we've not heard whether there are female pirates among the Somalians...) Short answer = it's random.

Karyn I think your daily numbers have a reasonable chance of not loosing their identity. I always row in the mornings also. My experience is you will have to finish rowing and post your numbers before 8AM (Central) in order to to have a serious chance of doubling up with the day before meters. Kona2 has to be a morning person, and I swear she's doing our stats before she has breakfast most days! So my morning rows are never captured and counted as meters that day by Kona2. They always show up the next day. But of course if you have the will power and drive to get up before the chickens to row, more power to you, and that could result in a different story. Darryl

Hahahahaha ha!!! - I am indeed one who likes to work on numbers and any kind of math thing early in the day....but forget doing any kind of rowing before ten in the morning! Not sure if that truly makes me a morning person or not!

Good to know that Karyn doesn't want to get the top badge of honor for the day() unless she has rowed/erged more than any other Luna-Tic teammate reports in that 24 hrs. I can respect that. I kind of like the chess pieces as designations....it's almost like getting a half moon for a half marathon, a full moon for a full marathon (which is something else we have adopted between last year's challenge and now!).

Congrats to Tony, the number sequence Vegas man, for attaining the 200K meter board by the way! Good rowing!

So far this day we are holding steady at 10 Luna-Tics on the boards!

You are an enigma, K2. Do the morning people among us do stretches and/or yoga before AM rowing? I don't think my joints bend without danger before 10 AM and several cups of coffee.

For the first 100,000 the amount was .02 for each 1,000 meters. After 100,000 meters the amount went to .04 for each 1,000 meters. The first 100,000 meters is worth $2.00 and that amount did not change.
