The 50,000 was about 6 day's worth, Cindy! I keep a clipboard by the rower and note all of my times/meters there, entering them in the log book when I have a chance. Last week, I just didn't have a chance, so I finally took the time to do it yesterday.
Pat had suggested some time ago to do shorter sessions, so now I do 1500, 2000, or 2500 meter sessions when possible. The only problem is that I have to remember to stop what I'm doing & row! When I'm rowing more than 8000/day, I need some longer sessions, too. I seem to like 40 minutes a lot, but I'm very slow. I prefer to row a certain amount of time rather than a certain number of meters, and I have a spreadsheet where I track my average daily meters for each goal, so I know if I'm falling behind. I need that because I don't always row the same number of meters a day and always miss a few days here and there.
I have a seat cushion on my rower (like the kind you buy for a *** DELETE - SPAM *** chair), but have thought a lot about investing in the one that was mentioned a while back in the forum, although I remember it being very expensive. I'm having more problems with my left shoulder blade at the moment than my butt!
I've found it very interesting that when I make a goal, I don't do more than what I need, but without any goals, I'm lost! So, I'll just continue to mix it up and keep things interesting!
I'm still a day behind in my Pre-Thanksgiving goal, but I'm hoping to fit some rowing into my baking and painting schedule tonight. I think it's great that we're all so busy year 'round but are still taking time to fit in the exercise.
I just don't know about the ice fishing, Michael. Maybe if we make a party out of it...

Happy Thanksgiving Team TimbukTOO!
A day off of work to spend with the family, then it's back to work. I can't complain though the snow is getting deep on the slopes and skiing conditions are awesome with some moderate temps this week-end.
Good luck all with the Holiday challenge, great to see lots of meters being added to the team.
Question though, How many meters does it take to remove a pound of turkey and half a pumpkin pie? Just can't seem to resist
A THANKSGIVING TALE from www.101thanksgiving.com
'Twas the night of Thanksgiving,
but I just couldn't sleep...
I tried counting backwards,
I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned...the dark meat and white,
but I fought the temptation with all of my might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation,
the thought of a snack became infatuation.
So, I raced to the *** DELETE - SPAM ***, flung open the door
and gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
stuffing with gravy, green beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky
with a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie
But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees...
Happy eating to all -- pass the cranberries, please.
Happy Rowing!

What a touching poem!
Well, I've got my meters in for the day, so I'm off to eat almost all the things mentioned(tomatoes?)--plus, since we go to a Thai friend's for Thanksgiving, there also will be Thai noodles, and rice, and a whole salmon, and shrimp, and beef curry and....
Luckily, I know from having done this challenge last year that if you do 200,000 meters, you can get through the whole holidays without gaining a pound--unless you happen to be pregnant, of course.
Happy Thanksgiving to all--and especially you, Pat, for maintaining this very inspirational forum.

If you want to lose weight, CALORIES DO COUNT! If you want to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume. All physical activity burns calories, even activities like standing, sitting and sleeping. The more vigorous an activity, the more calories burned. To lose 1 pound, you must burn 3500 excess calories (500 calories per day over the course of a week).
Health care professionals recommend slow weight loss as the safest and most effective plan. You lose weight grad-ually over a period of time.
One-half to one pound per week slow weight loss promotes long-term loss of body fat.
If you reduce your calorie intake by 300 calories a day and increase your activity to burn 200 extra calories per day, you can expect a steady weight loss of approximately one pound per week
The heavier a person is, the more calories they will burn.
Rowing gives you more bang for your buck
Rowing can burn as much as over 600 calories an hour.More than a walk and more than most cardio workouts.
So you can do the math..watch what you eat and calculate your "burn" by the metabolism factor you set for youself.
Have fun and eat!!There is always tomorrow!!!

Tip
When you feel the urge to eat that left over pie or drumstick..row for 20 minutes FIRST!!!..or..row instead...your hunger will lessen and the urge will leave and you will have added more meters and more $$ to the holiday cause.
