Greetings Lilia and Peter
Congratulations and best wishes Lilia & Peter! Thanks for sharing the invitations and the cake ;).

It's been a while since I wrote, so belated congratulations to the great milestones I missed:

Capt. Kristine's two marathons. I cannot even fathom running at 30F...
Steven L's 1M for the season!
Ted's 6M lifetime!
Chris' 2M for the season!
The whole LUNA-TICS FRC team for the 3rd place!

And...

Belated welcome to Will S. whose meters further propelled us towards the moon though the fall challenge!

Get well soon Gina and Capt Kristine!

Today I posted for two days, after being for two days "under the weather."

Happy rowing!

Andrea

Only you, Darryl, could have found this clip! Wouldn't that pumpkin become waterlogged and sink before 8 days were done?

Chris - Me thinks it would be wise carry a bailer aboard a pumpkin pirate ship. Otherwise I think once the water got ankle high in a pumpkin vessel, it would soon be Humpty Dumpty time. Draft (floatation) is inversely proportional to increasing weight of load (or rising water level in the bottom of the boat).

Today a video of an expert doing freestyle paddling moves at a campground lake where a gathering of solo canoeist recently got together in Pennsylvania; was posted on a paddling website I frequent. I was impressed and I now know I have a long way to go yet for my Jedi Masters in paddling, even though I have been at it for 46 years! For those curious / interested what kind of canoe paddling this might be, here is the link to watch an elegant ballet of canoeist and canoe.

I wonder if someone has ever tried freestyle paddling moves in a pumpkin canoe?

slow comeback

Post by acrewer » October 21st, 2008, 12:08 pm

Those meters were actually from Sunday, but didn't get posted until late. Yesterday I was sore again. Kind of a pain when breathing hurts! Today is better. I may try to row tonite. Frustrating because there is NOTHING I can do about it.

Gina, how did you hurt your ribs? (I think you mentioned you'd been "too competitive" ... ??)

When I borrowed my daughter's IPOD and listened to Mamma Mia, I didn't realize that I brought the stroke rate up too high. I wasn't paying attention to FORM - specifically not keeping my back straight at the catch. Nothing specifically hurt at the time, it was more of a gradual increase in pain, and then one morning I could not roll out of bed, much less sit up. There are still twinges when I take a deep breath.
Doing a bit of research, it appears this is not an uncommon injury.

But me of all people should have KNOWN better...slow and steady wins, be the tortoise not the hare.

My daughter downloaded the musical soundtrack onto her IPOD. I borrowed it to row today. Friday's 40 min timed row was 8434; today's was 8839 - and the first time I've broken 2:16/500m for more than 2K.

There's something to good music.

Gina
I remembered Gina's catchy little twist on Mamma Mia....here I row again...and looked it up. Yikes.....speed hurts!?
